Character and Description:
Taicho is a minor retainer in a mountain village, a member of a household who have traditionally provided foragers and scouts to the traveling warbands of the Tengu for generations. He carries a long katana, a tanto, and an asymmetrical longbow. His leather armor is covered by a belted robe of black and green in jagged shapes, and his veiled helmet frames a long, sharp beak.
Background Description:
Alternating his time depending on the seasons, Taicho spends the warring season as a forager for his lord's warband, and the harvest season hunting in the mountains. The deep winter is spent in the hall of his household, maintaining his weapons and fletching new arrows for the coming season. As a member of a warrior family, but a minor one, Taicho spent his youth evading and observing the proud children of the greater families, lest they attempt to temper his temerity with their wooden training swords.

As a member of a military family, death in service was considered a goal to Taicho. Having died, in something resembling service, he had decided that perhaps there were better options.
Selling most of his kit, he returned to the mountains with his robes and his katana, and entered a monastery. The sword was committed to the armory while he studied and meditated, attempting to come to terms with the fluidity of mortality. Hunting and warmaking were put aside, and he devoted his free time to analyzing the languages he had encountered in the darkness below, when not being thrown about by the elder students.
Months later, Taicho judged he was more comfortable with his own understanding of death, and asked permission to return to his adventuring. His katana he asked to be broken, and the tip was ground into the needle-sharp dart that tipped a fine steel chain forged from the smelted down shards of the long blade. With this subtle weapon bound about his waist, in his now much more weathered grey and green robes, Taicho descended from the mountains and set off to Chapune. Hopefully, his gift for languages would serve him more in this journey than his eye for the dart.
