This PBP thread is more aimed towards the lower leveled characters. Level 6 will probably be around the level limit. My reasoning is that I will be running sessions in this arc and I prefer running for lower levels. Sorry to exclude people. Also here is a link to a roll20 table that you can use to roll a skill check or such. Please label the rolls clearly. app.roll20.net/join/1201130/OlSLzgThe Word on the Way is a small bookstore in the Knowledge District. It is located in a strange area, almost if the small shop didn't want to be seen. Letters were sent to everyone in Rook. The letters were slightly encrypted but any adventurer would be able to decrypt it easily. The decrypted letter simply said to meet at a small bookstore called "The Word on the Way" if you are seeking adventure. Turlagh Sweeney awakens in his small, humble abode, little more than a poorly kept one room shack. He wipes the sleep from his eyes and the drool from his mouth as he yawns and begins making his way to the Golden Plow, intending to either find a job or get smashingly hammered just as he did most days. As he makes his way out the door, he notices a letter just outside his doorstep. Grunting to himself before reading it, he doesn't quite understand the contents and becomes quickly frustrated. After spending a large amount of time angrily trying to understand the letter, the cipher finally clicks for him. Blushing in a moment of embarrassment for spending such a long time on such an obvious message, he makes his way to the only bookstore he's ever sought out.

A short distance from Rook, Tigger Kitteh lazes in the sun, while Grobbix passes the day in a meadow, chasing grasshoppers in the long grass. Kitteh seems largely oblivious to the antics of her Goblin keeper.
Grobbix catches his quarry and asks, "Is Tigger Kitteh sure no wants Hopper Bug? Is tasty foods. Is very good!" And throws the bug in his mouth.
Without missing a beat, he continues. "Is okay. Grobbix eat tasty Hopper Bug."
Growing tired, Grobbix curls up next to Kitteh and pulls out his Travelogue. "Is story time. Grobbix read Kitteh a story."
Upon opening it, Grobbix begins communing with the other Walkers of the Wayward Path. As luck would have it one of the few Walkers who enjoyed the company of Grobbix was also using his travelogue. Grobbix immediately recognized him among the many minds, and spoke to him.
"Friend Lhoris! Is Grobbix. Is can Friend Lhoris tell Grobbix and Kitteh a story now?"
"No? Is Friend Lhoris want to hear story from Grobbix?"
Before waiting for a response, Grobbix began, "Grobbix wake up and find Kitteh gone. Grobbix is finds tracks..."
Grobbix pauses, with a look of disappointment spreading across his face, "What? Is no time for Grobbix story? Is good story. Is very good! Is okay. Grobbix understand."
After another pause, he continues his excitement renewed. "Is very good idea! Friend Lhoris always have good ideas!"
Grobbix snapped back to reality and immediately leaped to his feet, urging the big cat up. "Come Tigger Kitteh! Is time to go!"
Tigger Kitteh, ignored the goblin's antics, clearly preferring its spot in the sun to any other suggestion. But the Goblin was undeterred and began collecting and packing their things. "Is time to go! Grobbix is go to special place in Rook! Has books like big library! Must helps his friends!"
Grobbix, finally succeeding in getting the large tiger to it's feet, raced to load the sacks and jugs on it's back. "Lhoris tells Grobbix of special place for special Walkers like Grobbix. Lhoris is good friend. Is tells Grobbix about Golden Plow. Golden Plow is where Grobbix find friend to help get back Kitteh!"
Grobbix, finishing the packing, climbs on the back of the tiger and continues to tell Tigger Kitteh the story of how Grobbix saved him, as Grobbix had dozens of times previously. With the Goblin talking ceaselessly about how he saved Kitteh, the pair began the short journey into Rook and made their way to The Word on the Way, following the directions supplied by Lhoris.

Upon entering the bookstore a boy behind the desk will greet you. As you look around the small shop, will appear to be a normal bookstore. There are shelves upon shelves of books and a small counter near the front which the boy stands behind. To Turlagh, "Ah, welcome to The Word on the Way. I hope that you find what you're looking for." To Grobbix, "Hello." The boy looks up from what he is reading and sees the tiger. He looks shocked at first but quickly smiled again. "Welcome to The Word on the Way. I hope that you find what you're looking for." Turlagh and Grobbix are now both standing in the small cramped bookstore. Also, here is the token for the boy behind the desk.

Adris Burche works furiously at his forge, each hammer blow carrying his frustration at his recent ill-fated mission. Two comrades killed while lying helpless and failure to achieve the objective... it was not a good day.
A man enters the shop, but Adris is so intently focused on his work that he fails to notice at first. The man announces his presence, finally getting Adris's attention, and offers him a letter. Adris opens the letter and recognizes the stationery of the Wayward Path. Remembering the previous job he performed for them does little to lift his spirits - another fellow adventurer killed on that trip, plus an entire campsite slaughtered. At least he was able to deliver retribution on their murderers.
Adris gruffly dismisses the man and resumes his work. *Hammer* Perhaps his parents were right. *Hammer* Perhaps he should never have left the Guard. *Hammer* Perhaps he was better off not getting mixed up with this riffraff. But... He pauses. What kind of man would he be if he allowed such setbacks to deter him from his goal? He has seen recent failures, yes, but he has also seen many great successes: a family healed, a necromancer destroyed, numerous criminals brought to justice... He chose this path, to guide and protect these adventurers for the good of Rook, and he would see it through to the end, whatever that end might be.
He finishes up his work for the day, and, curious as to why the Wayward Path might be summoning him again so soon, heads off to the bookstore.

When Adris enters the small bookstore he will see the same sight as Turlagh and Grobbix and sill be similarly greeted by the boy behind the counter. Adris will see Turlagh, Grobbix, and Tigger Kitteh standing around as if they had just arrived.
After greeting Adris, the boy behind the counter goes back to reading.

Turlagh is shocked at the sight of a goblin and an accompanying Tiger, but doesn't say anything before greeting Adris. "E'llo Adris! Been some time! I'm guessing you came to ask bout the letter too, eh??" Turlagh then turns to the boy behind the desk. "Oi, lad, you the one responsible for all these letters mentionin adventuring? ??! What's all that bout then?"

The boy will look up from his book. "Oh, you've come here about the letter? Very well, that means that you are at least capable enough to join us. Is it safe to assume that you two are here about the letter as well? We never get this much traffic in here."

Morgak sits in an empty lot, roasting the flesh of a stray dog on a spit. A warcat paces around him, eagerly awaiting its portion of the meal. Upon receiving the letter, he holds it sideways, looking at it in confusion. When he is unable to decipher it himself, he begins asking various nearby vagrants the meaning of the strange message.

Char opens the door to the bookstore and begins to peruse the selections, as he walks in he nods to other inhabitants. "I received an invitation to this establishment. A call to adventure. Lots of books here." He picks up a random book and flips to a random page and begins to look through the texts, twitching sporadically all the while. "So what are we here for?"

Adris returns Turlaugh's greeting. "It has been a while, hasn't it? I hope all is going well with you. I am indeed here about the letter. Although it seems we are not the only ones to have received them" he says, as he sees a few more adventurers entering the room.
He notices Grobbix and Tigger Kitteh and smiles at them as he gently reaches out a hand to pat the tiger. "Hiya kiddo. Your cat hasn't been getting into any more trouble, has he?"

"Is Grobbix! Is Tigger Kitteh! Lhoris in the book said to come here. Said this is special bookstore. Said..."
Grobbix is interrupted by Adris entering the bookstore. Immediately Grobbix shifts his attention. "Is friend Adris! Adris help Grobbix and Tigger Kitteh. Now Grobbix and Tigger Kitteh is help you! Is good! Is very good!"
The small store is made smaller still by the presence of the large cat. Though it seems to be keeping to itself, the cat is attentive to what is going on around her. Kitteh, recognizing Adris and taking cues from Grobbix's mannerisms, allows Adris to approach and touch her.
Before Grobbix was able to continue with Adris, he recognizes Char in the back of the store. "Is friend Char too! Is good day! Is very good day! Grobbix is help friends!"
Grobbix turns back to Adris. "Friend Lhoris in the book tells Grobbix to come to here. Says Walker Friends needs helps. So Grobbix and Tigger Kitteh come here. Peoples in Rook is give funny looks to Grobbix and Tigger Kitteh. Grobbix is thinks they dont like Grobbix. Is not good. Is makes Grobbix sad. Is bad day. Is very bad day."
Grobbix's shoulders have begone to slouch as he tells his story and his voice starts losing its energy, but then he perks back up again. "But is now knows why Grobbix comes here. Is Grobbix chance to helps Friends! Helps for helps! Grobbix has books! Char and Adris have books too! Grobbix and friends can talk with their books! Can share stories! Is good day! Is very good day!"
At this point Grobbix's excitement has caused him to almost begin jumping up and down in place. "When we share stories? What does Grobbix friends need Grobbix helps for? Grobbix and friends is make stories together! Is very good Tigger Kitteh! Is good day! Is very good good day!"
Grobbix's excitement has seemed to reach its peak when he runs over to the cat and throws himself into Kitteh. Grobbix buries his face in the cat's fur and begins to pet the cat while muttering some sort of gibberish to the Tiger, getting lost in his new activity.

The boy behind the counter puts down his book and stands up. If you look at the cover you will notice that the book is called "Rock Lobsters and Footlouse, and Excellent Discovery."
"You four can follow me," the boy says. He leads you to back room of the bookstore. Inside the room is a single object, a very large archway. The boy pulls a new book from a pocket in his robe and presents it to the archway. A glowing portal will appear within the arch.
"Well, after you," the boy says gesturing for you to go in.
((OOC: Who here is a member of the Wayward Path? I know Grobbix is, but is anyone else?))

"Ehrr...well..............thanks I guess"
Turlagh takes a quick glance at the others, gives a nervous grin to Adris, and steps through the portal.

After stepping through the portal Turlagh will be standing in a large library. There are people wandering around everywhere. Some are standing along the side of the shelves reading various books and others are sitting around tables chatting. Most of the people either look like scholars or adventurers.

Donny swaggers about town in his usual confident manner. Throwing out pick up lines to random girls on the street, scaring off the usual grunts who shake down the poor people who come to the slums and don't know what they've gotten themselves into.
As he is walking home to check on his ma' he sees a letter stuffed into his mail box. He opens it and decyphers it with ease (18 int and one rank in linguistics I can roll if you'd like). "Ma' I'm going to be out for a bit!" He yells to his front door
"Make sure to wear a sweatah! It's cold outside!" His mother yelled worriedly
"I got my jacket!" He days pulling his signature leather jacket tighter around him.
He makes his way to the store

As Donny enters the bookstore a bell rings above him. He will see the same as the others except that there is no one behind the desk. There is no sign of anyone being in the shop.
"Oh, someone else is here," the boy says to the people by the portal. "You are free to go through the portal."
The boy then runs to the front of the store and greets Donny.

Having just been here a few days ago, Adris steps through the portal without hesitation. On the other side, he elbows Turlagh. "That wasn't so bad, eh?", he says with a grin. He starts looking around for the clown-faced guy he met on his previous visit.

Grobbix notices that the others have left the room and jumps on Tigger Kitteh to follow. Grobbix goes through the portal and immediately recognizes the Great Library from when he joined the Wayward Path. He wasn't terribly impressed by it, as he found the inhabitants to be a bit stuffy for his tastes, nor did they seem to appreciate his antics.
Grobbix keeps to himself as much as he can, and follows Adris as he seems to know where he is going.

"errrr, where are we exactly??"

"Oh, you are also here about the letter, and no we are not looking for trouble. We merely want to present you with a job opportunity," the boy says to Donny. "Please follow me this way, others have already entered."
With that the boy will begin to walk to the back room.

Arenia steps in, looking for some new books on either bard or regional lore. Of course, she'd heard about the possibility for adventure here as well, but truth be told, she was new to the area and was more eager to learn about the place. After all, how could she be a good emissary for her family if she was forever a fish out of water?

When Arenia enters the bookstore she will be greeted by the boy behind the counter. "Welcome to The Word on the Way. I hope that you find what you're looking for." After the greeting the boy returns to his reading. Inside the portal the four adventurers will be approached by a strange looking man. "Hello, hello, hello! You must be here about the letter. Yes yes, very good." The man will nod to Adris after recognizing him. "I am, uh, Pupillam! And you are?" The strange man:
