Heavy and tower are pretty explicit RaW about this, so this is for light and bucklers. Will you be able to keep the shield bonus to AC if you use a crossbow, sling, or other weapon that needs two hands to reload?
Also, is there a ruling for what kind of action it is to swap a weapon to your other hand - For example: switch weapon to shield arm so you can use the non-shield hand for somatic components and back.

You'll keep the shield bonus as long as you don't use a weapon in that hand. You should be able to use a light shield/buckler with a crossbow fine as long as you fire the crossbow one handed. You can fire a light crossbow with one hand at a -2 penalty for example, which you would need to do to not take the attack roll penalty/lose AC from a buckler, and you can't fire with two hands at all with a light shield, since that specifically forbids weapons.
Switching a weapon to a free hand is a free action.
