Hello there. I'm interested in becoming a GM for Dragonsgate as it's a fun community and the sessions I've been in have been quite enjoyable. I've noticed the disparity between GM's and players, so would like to do my part to help out.
I've DM'ing for 8 years for various systems. My main favourites are indies such as All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Don't Rest Your Head, Lacuna: Second Attempt and Unknown Armies. I have a lot of experience with D&D 3.5 and retroclones such as Labyrinth Lord and Lamentations of the Flame Princess and a couple of years experience with Pathfinder, as well as a little bit of 4th.
I'm a largely improvisational style DM and really dislike railroading. I prize myself on my ability to come up with interesting situations depending on where people go and tend to take on a focus approach - I largely sketch a world and add detail and focus to where the players are looking at, building up the world as they go. I like writing overall narrative for background that happens even if players don't interact with it, since my campaign worlds are living. An example would be setting up an oppressive oligarchy and organized religion at odds with each other, and mapping out the key playing pieces and timeline events that players may stumble on to. I prize verisimilitude and consequences, such as a thief being accosted, arrested and ultimately sentenced if they don't get their act together.
As for what I'd like to bring, I'd like to help flesh out Rook and the surrounding city states and appropriate pantheons, oligarchies and so forth along the approach outlined above. Not only that, but I generally enjoy running games as well as playing in them as I predominately DM for my local gaming group. Over the past year for example I've generally run in the region of 6 to 7 mini campaigns (lasting on average 3 to 4 months) as well and capping off a three year one.
