Who you're talking to:
I am a 29 year old computer programmer. I've played D&D 3.X and Pathfinder since about 2004 (time split fairly evenly between playing and DMing). I've played a smattering of M&M, Shadowrun and WoD. I'm in my third year of running a weekend LARP game.
Strengths:
I try to strike a good balance of "role-play first" and "use the rules to improve the story". I have experience working within shared settings (Pathfinder Society and running LARP events with multiple storytellers). I have a wide variety of experiences (both real world and game), that I can use to populate my games, that I hope will add a new 'voice' and flavor to Dragon's Gate.
Weaknesses:
My big weakness is that I have other commitments that may preclude me from running a ton of games. As a GM, I would strive to run two games every three weeks or so.
I'm a bit rusty with Pathfinder; I played it when it first came out for about a year, then last year reintroduced myself to it by way of Pathfinder Society. So I have good grasp for how the rules work with broad strokes, but I don't have every class/archtype/monster memorized nor how to optimally combine such options. I used to have encyclopedic knowledge of 3.5, so it took a while to unlearn the differences when I came to Pathfinder both times. It's not much of an issue now with the Paizo rules, but I might have to unlearn 3.5 Psionics and Tome of Battle in order to adapt to Dreamscarred Psionics and Path of War.
I am also not very familiar with Roll20, but the interface seems simple enough. I think after a few games I will be proficient at it, but wanted to warn you that I am not a Roll20 expert yet.
Goals:
I'm hugely excited to join Dragons Gate as a player. It ticks a lot of boxes that I enjoy in a game: with dynamically explored world building where players can have impacts, the downtime rules encourages players to invest themselves into the city beyond just as a base from which they can adventure and the 'pick up' concept of games, since real life sometimes means that a group of players can't all keep the same night of the week free for long running games.
And I want to help run games in order to allow more people a chance to play. It seems like the recent influx of new players might be more than what the current corp of GM's can easily handle (and besides, I'm sure the current GM's want to play their characters too).
Finally, I want to express my GM voice. I've had both good GMs and bad GMs in the past, and I want to work at becoming better. That includes allowing the players agency and a chance to be the hero (or anti-hero or mercenary) that they aspire to be. I enjoy telling stories as well as letting players tell their own stories.
