Description::
The Scales is a guildhall solely funded by Ben Weese. Many of his days are now spent within The Scales or running errands between the city and his structure. The primary function of The Scales is the production and processing of animals, or at least their corpses, for competitive prices. In rough times, The Scales seemingly always has some form of supply to keep the wheels turning, and it is this dependability that caused it to quickly catch on for inner-city businesses to use it as a primary source for materials. The Scales produces its own goods, but their location and surrounding populace keeps the structure from becoming a central hub of any sort, therefore it has more or less kept to the supply side of goods.
The employees are generally happy to work at this place. Compared to the nearby slums, Ben offers clean, orderly single-room sleeping quarters. For the craftsmen, he maintains high-quality tools and spacious working areas. For the hired security, the storefront is attached directly to the bar's common area, meaning even a boring day doesn't necessarily mean it's as mind-numbing as most other stationary guard-work.
With this said, not all is perfect. As a primarily-production facility, there is little traffic of customers, but rather most traffic is transportation to various districts of Rook. What's more, the owner is fairly reclusive toward his employees. He remains in the depths of the basement, sometimes for more than a day. He is hard to connect with, between his strange mannerisms, confounding physical deformities, and his paranoid behavior when pressed. He sometimes gives laborers the day off to do their work himself, still paying them for the days' work. At other times, he's nearly fearful to be seen by any and all.
While at first there were workers that decided to further press the issue, they no longer work at The Scales. The remaining employees and the replacements are in general agreement to give their boss a wide berth when it comes to his actions, and to just assume this is the impact of an adventurer's lifestyle. There is still some internal dissonance, but it is kept quiet for fear of their relatively excellent lodgings.
