In the guide, it lists Darts as ammunition-type throwing weapons, same as it does for Shurikens. Are they treated the same as well, being capable of being drawn as a free action and crafted Masterwork with the usual 6gp expenditure for ammunition?

There are throwing darts and blowgun darts. Blowgun darts are 5 silver pieces for 10 and weigh 1/5 of a pound each. Throwing darts are throwing weapons which cost 5 silver pieces per dart and weigh 1/2 of a pound each.
Shuriken are exotic weapons that have a special set of rules. These rules do not exist for any other thrown weapon. They are as follows:
The drawback is that they cannot be used as a melee weapon, and thus do not threaten adjacent squares without appropriate feats.
So the question at hand: Do throwing darts use the same mechanics as Shurikens?
No, they do not. As written, only shurikens are treated as both thrown weapons and ammunition. As intended, shurikens require exotic weapon proficiency while darts are simple weapons, and therefore can be used by pretty much every class.
