On the day to day when Nanbu is not off adventuring, he sits at a table in the Central Market, where he claims to give sagely advice to assist people from all walks of life, all for a small fee of gold. The validity and quality of his words of wisdom are questionable. Since few people actually stop by his table, he often just sleeps, with Ro at his feet.
If one would like some words of wisdom, one must simply walk up, drop a few coins, and Nanbu will speak the words of his ancestors.

While perusing the luxury fabrics and perfumes in the central market, Alicia spots Nanbu sitting at a table with a stoic expression on his face. She remembered hearing about a strange foreigner in the market district that was peddling "wisdom". A clay bowl sits next to him that seems to be doing more collecting dust than collecting donations.
Alicia's eyes light up at the prospect of expanding her knowledge with wisdom from someone who looks so worldly and she approaches the table.
"Hello! My name's Alicia. I heard you were offering wisdom in exchange for donations!"
Wearing her usual bright, caring smile, she reaches into her pouch and drops 25gp into the bowl.

Waking up from his light slumber, Nanbu looks at the young girl, then the coins in the bowl. He simply nods then closes his eyes, while the markings on his arms start glowing.
Suddenly, he opens his eyes, and one can easily tell that Nanbu isn't... well, Nanbu.
"Huh, wha? Who are you lass?" It isn't Nanbu's usual demeanor, but instead of an old snappy woman. "Bah, I bet this blasted great-great-grandson of mine is offering his so called 'wisdom' services again. Fine missy, allow I, the mighty Haruna the Powerful to give you some 'wisdom'. You're young, so go find a man to settle down with, and make sure you let him know who the breadwinner in the family is. Wahaha~."
'Haruna' kicks back and can't stop laughing at her stupid joke.
"Al-alternatively, pffft, go and..." 'Haruna' stops laughing, and her demeanor goes cold. 'She' closes her eyes for a moment and thinks out loud. "Hoho~, now that's interesting. I see, I see." 'Haruna' keeps nodding all the while. "Lass, let me tell you something, It would be in your best interest to not die anytime soon, since the future holds something great for you. You will either be heralded as the bringer of a new age in science, or the harbinger of a terrible calamity. Sadly, that is all I can see. Good luck missy, we, the spirits of the Iyu clan will surely be watching you."
'Haruna' closes her eyes, and the marks on Nanbu's arm stop their glowing. Nanbu looks up at Alicia and simply says "Thank you for your patronage," before going back to sleep.

Alicia remains silent throughout Nanbu's speech, her eyes widened with shock from the unfamiliar tone of his voice amidst the glowing markings on his body. She had never witnessed such a phenomenon, despite having traveled with many types of adventurers, magical or otherwise. The seemingly self-mocking nature of the new voice and lame "bread" joke served only to entrance her more with fascination, due to the fact that she didn't remember mentioning she wanted to be a literal bread-maker.
Then came the mention of the great fate Alicia was to fulfill simply by staying alive. The two fated paths Nanbu revealed to her were vastly different in nature:
Herald of New Age Science or Harbinger of Calamity.
Alicia became visibly shaken from Nanbu's words, and after a quick, "THANK YOU!" ran off to the nearest tavern to get a hot cup of tea to calm herself down and get her bearings before going anywhere else.

On a particularly dreary afternoon, Aria trudges through the central market after a particularly slow day at the library. Though she usually wears no emotion on her face, she seems to look quite... worn. Burned out, even. She recalled a rumor of a strange man in the area who gave advice to those who made donations to him.
Of course, when she arrived at this very table, his eyes were shut, probably asleep or something. On the table in front of him held a clay bowl containing a few coins. Aria hesitates slightly at the prospect of such a carefree man providing her with advice, but inevitably reaches for her pouch and pulls 25gp from it, and drops it into the bowl.
In a barely audible voice, she utters, "...Hello. I've heard that you have been offering words of wisdom in exchange for some gold?"

Hearing the sound of coins dropping into his collection bowl, Nanbu wakens from his light nap. He looks at the girl in front of him, wondering why his two biggest customers so far both looked like they were a bit young to be adventuring. Regardless, he just shrugs, leans back in his chair, and lets the marks on his arms start their glowing.
His back contorts forward, bending over like he's an elderly man. A groan comes out of his mouth.
And in the manner of an old man, "Ehh, who are you? Some broody and depressed girl? Bah, I bet you're here for some of that 'Sagely Wisdom' trash this stupid great-great-grandson is offering. We'll, allow I, the once great Norau the Invincible give you some advice. Stay in school, and by school, I mean keep your nose buried in the library, you'll probably find what you're looking for before the year's end. What else... err, I guess there's also adventuring, but like I said, aren't you a bit young to be doing something that dangerous? Oh well, not my fault if you die."
"Norau" suddenly sneezes, and when he collects himself, Nanbu has regained control of his body.
"Woops." He sneezes once more. "Thank you for your patronage."

"..."
Slightly bewildered by the display and advice she was given, Aria quietly nods, says her thanks, and walks away. What even just happened? It's time to go back to the library, she supposes.

"Oh hey, you're that beggar that came with us to that lizard island," Deverix notes as he walks up to Nanbu, his trusty golem rumbling a few steps behind him. "Well I just recently came into some money and I'm feeling generous so I'll do my part for charity." Deverix says with a smile.
Reaching into a small pouch, Deverix pulls out a single copper piece... and then another... and then a silver piece, until he has about 1 gp worth of money in various bits of small change in his hands. Nodding in a self satisfied manner, Deverix then dumps them all into the clay bowl in front of Nanbu.
"No need to thank me friend, it's the thought that counts!"

Nanbu, half-awake at the voice of his former companion, looks up with drowsy eyes, says "Give a man a coin, he eats for the day, unless you give so little he starves tomorrow," and promptly goes back to sleep.

"Well it's a good thing I gave you more than one coin isn't it, buddy!" Deverix said, nodding at the pile of copper and silver pieces sitting in the bowl. "Well, perhaps we'll run into each other some other day! You can treat to me lunch next time instead. Farewell then good friend! Come, Volouk. We have much shopping to do. I hope we can make that 5 copper sale on day old bread..."
With a fancy little flourish of his cape, Deverix left the little table, Volouk trailing behind him like an obedient guard dog.
