So my character (approval pending) has Craft(Jewelry). Naturally since gem-cutting is part of making jewelry, I want to craft some gems. There is no DC listed for this, but it certainly isn't going to be that hard. I'm thinking a DC of 10 plus 1 per 25gp in its cost I.E. any gem with a value below 25gp will have a DC of 10 to make, 25gp would be 11, 50gp would be 12, 250gp would be 21 and so on. Considering that when taking 10 I get a 22 craft check, even if for some reason cutting a gem is abnormally difficult I'd be able to craft the one I'm starting out with. So yeah, I just need an equation to determine DC

5 10 15 20 seems to be the typical progression for items with the craft skill. I'd say DC 20 for 100+ gp, DC 15 for 50+, DC 10 for 10+, and DC 5 for anything less than 10gp.

Can this apply to every item except where overidden by a provided DC? I want to craft a gold holy symbol worth 100gp with a secret compartment (+5 gp) so that'd be DC 20 Craft: Jewelry?
