Hi,
I've been thinking about creating a character here for a few days but I have one major concern: the lack of "official" religions / deities. I'm a huge fan of religions and deities in tabletop settings and I'm a bit disappointed that they aren't a part of the setting you guys have made so far. The main reason for this is that in my opinion religion is/should be a part of any medieval timed (fantasy) society and is key to my immersion into a world. Another problem this creates is that you suggest players using deities published by Paizo which, in addition to breaking immersion, just don't fit into this setting. For example if my Paladin believed in Iomedae I'd still have to completely overhaul her story because otherwise there'd have to be a test of the Starstone, a dead god callled Aroden, a sunken continent called Azlanti, the aliens that destroyed Azlanti and well you can probably see my point by now.
So my question is: are there any plans for making official religions, deities and/or pantheons? If there aren't because nobody wants / has time to make them I'd be happy to help out. If there aren't because you don't want them I implore you to at least stop players from cherry picking their deities from other settings and let them create their own religions and pantheons with gods they made up for their characters.

This is a better question for Gryph to answer than myself, but the basics of religion/clerics in DG is that clerical and other Divine casters gain power from their own belief, rather than having it being bequeathed by a deity. The gods themselves are largely are mystery, people assume that they are real because clerics get powers from them, but in actuality the gods are either uninterested or incapable of having much interaction with mortals. Of course, some religions are still more common than others, particularly those of healing or harvest among farmers and such.
Basically, you can believe that the world was created by an almighty potato and still receive spells, because they come from the power of your own faith.. That doesn't make it true.

Interesting. To add on to that, how would it reflect in interactions with outsider summons? It is as much a mystery to them or do we assume they simply can't say if questioned on it?

We should get this posted somewhere (unless it is somewhere and I missed it) so that future divine casters are in the know.
