Branwen is a Tiefling who grew up in a small Tengu tribe of ~75 people on Kamigami no Kuni.
Before she was born, the tribe’s chieftain, King Astor, fell for her mother, an Oni who infiltrated the tribe disguised as a beautiful woman to take advantage of the material privileges that came with being his queen, and to gradually influence him to change his beliefs and practices towards his treatment of his people and neighboring tribes.
The Oni gave birth to Branwen, clearly a Tiefling, before smiling, revealing her true form to King Astor, and spiriting herself away, knowing the scheme had been revealed by the child. Only Astor and the midwife knew of her heritage. Not wanting to appear to the people as having consorted with a demon, he gave the newborn crown princess a Hat of Disguise (as a ribbon) and had her wear it at all times.
Astor tried to control every aspect of her life, preventing any social interaction with her tribe and such. She did manage to use her transmutable disguise to her advantage, though, on many (short-lived) occasions to spend time on her own or with other children. As a teenager, at one point, one of her friendships became romantic. She ended up showing her paramour her true form while in private. Years later, that girl would be a major player in the coup against her father.
The tribe had a long-standing feud with a nearby Orc tribe, but had a relatively peaceful if not rival relationship with other Tengu until recent years due to the king’s reactions to them. Driven to xenophobia, her father wanted to do away with the lot of them (despite the tribe’s comparative size), to kill them or drive them off using his own people. Even before the Oni apparently left, Astor had cracked down on his people seeking pleasure, mandating draconian rules to keep them in line and working hard. Many were already really pissed at him and now that he was apparently starting conflicts for which they would likely be forced to die, they began planning to overthrow the chieftain.
Branwen revealed her true nature to the conspirators, letting them know he was an unfit ruler partly because of who she really was. Her younger sister, Mellori, (not a Tiefling) was supposed to be in on the coup when it organized. She was the one who encouraged them to let Branwen join. She trusted Mellori, but her sister betrayed them in an apparent attempt to become the tribe’s crown princess. The party was caught by surprise as they were organizing the night of the coup. She was exiled after being forced to watch all of her compatriots executed, her lover among them.
Now she’s living with survivor’s guilt and trying to figure out what to do with her life. Maybe one day she will go back, kill her family, and leave (because ruling her tribe would be boring and restrictive), but that’s not even on her mind. It’s hard to be angry as someone when you were trying to kill them, or at someone for betraying you when they had something to gain. She was stupid for letting that happen and deserved what she got for being stupid. She wouldn’t let it happen again. She would become the best version of herself she could be.
Since her exile, she has lived as a nomad, focusing on picking up both the academic and martial skills to succeed as a Magus. In addition to her desire to one-day overthrow the corrupt leadership of her tribe, or what’s left of it, she sees the value in fighting corrupt leadership in the societies she visits in her travels. For now, though, she's focused on being the best Magus she can be and connecting with people who are strong or working to become strong as well, so that one day they might work together to make the world a better place. Since her allies from home are dead, she knows how important it is to find new ones.
Branwen has Tengu-like features, including crow-like head, legs, clawed hands, and a feathered body. Her tail is feathered and Archaeopteryx-like. She maintains the black feathers, but with some red patterning, especially around the head and chest, owl-like feathered horns, and pupil-less red eyes.

This will be my first time playing Pathfinder. If I have misunderstood anything on the character sheet, I will be glad to correct or add anything you might need. Also, I wrote this working with what info I could find on geography and history, but was really unsure if there's a contradiction with anything I missed, so it's no problem if I need to change that either.
Thanks and looking forward to playing with y'all,
