Lured to Dralhearth by the rumours that there had been a great fire and some shady dealings around it, the large group got to briefly know each other on the road. Once there, it was short work to ask around and chat to people to learn more, though it was as suspected - potential arson due to two fires starting almost at the same time halfway across the village to each other. With such a coincidence being unlikely, the group went to speak to the Mayor and see what his take on it was. He confirmed there were no specific suspects and nothing had really come up in the last two months since it had happened. He'd been out of town with his wife, burying their child at a family plot. Returning to find their home destroyed wasn't a pleasant experience in itself, let alone with a bereavement. Still, he was willing to pay for information that would lead to justice. The next port of call was the apothecary which had been the source of one of the fires. It was yet to be rebuilt, and Milene started rooting around in the wreckage. Spotting a partially burnt away trapdoor, and seeing earth filling the basement underneath, she quickly traveled back to the Mayor with Akane and Artemis following. Questioning him about it, the Mayor confirmed he'd not seen the apothecary in a while, so could only guess at what had happened. When prompted, he recalled the last group of mercenaries who'd passed through, dressed in blue robes, who had investigated the docks then dove into the sea. This confused everyone, but they went to look at the docks anyway.
Meanwhile, Zenn, Tanner and Sek'rai went to ask the apothecary's neighbour if they knew anything. Greeted by a kindly old lady, the trio accepted her invitation for tea when their initial refusal was met with tears and sadness. Once inside help was provided making the tea, with belladonna no less, then served as she answered their questions as best she could. Sek'rai went without tea, since the lady thought he was a trained lizard pet. Zenn and Tanner though, having drunk the brewed concoction, fell asleep. Sek'rai, suddenly startled that the old woman had revealed a large ritualistic dagger, shot her with a concealed weapon that seemed to do nothing to her at all. Worried now, he quickly woke up Zenn before being stabbed and falling unconscious to whatever was on the dagger. Zenn, unable to wake Sek'rai in turn, lashed out at the woman and missed before he too was stabbed and fell prey to the blade's soporific effect. With Tanner unwoken, all three had a 'bad time' as the woman slit their throats, giggling to herself at her victory.
The other, alive, trio, found a bare trace of blood under the dock that led into the sea. The aid of Milene's summoned dolphin revealed at the very least bodies off in the water on the seabed. Concerned, and wanting to meet up with the others, the trio returned to the apothecary to find their allies gone. Asking around revealed the allies had gone into the neighbours' house, so a quick knock and conversation later and they were entering for tea with the old lady. This time she tried to stab Artemis in the back, missing her stike and regretting life choices. With admirable speed and accuracy, Milene spun around and slammed the woman into her own door, nailing her in place with two critically placed arrows. The woman died. A brief exploration revealed the corpses of their allies in the lounge area, and a trapdoor in the kitchen. Looking down that revealed the intense smell of decay and after a very brief glance in it was found that not only were their allies taken, but a fishman-thing was escaping out of the window. A quick pursuit saw them lose the figure, though the trail of corpse-blood led to under the docks and the sea again. It seemed like more investigation was needed.
Later that night, Zenn, Tanner and Sek'rai all found themselves waking up in one of the fish warehouses, horrible ridged scars across their throats. If nothing else, all three were now likely more wary of old ladies and free tea.
