Character Name: Piotr Zakaev
Character and Description: Piotr is a slightly-built, grey-skinned half-orc from the Krome community of the Free Cities. Krome is the name used by the insular collection of half-orcs and those with weaker strains of orcish blood who make their home in the Free Cities. Attacked on sight in the old Empire, and generally shunned, the relative indifference of the Free City slavers (having been beaten away until the lesson sank in) seems like a welcome.
Piotr is in training to be a Streltsy Granata, one of several branches of semi-professional soldiers who police and protect the community, as well as ranging abroad to find others to direct home to Krome and collect coin and goods for the community. Streltsy Granata tend towards explosives, Streltsy Misticheskiy are usually magically augmented archers, and Streltsy Elitnyy are specialists in infiltration and survival. After generations of stereotyping, many of the citizens of Krome who aspire to be streltsy are eager to distinguish themselves and create a new branch of the streltsy as a way of standing out. The Streltsy Nayezdnik, for instance, are not yet recognized, but the sparse ranks of the travelling streltsy who find themselves in the plains have fully embraced the steppe lifestyle, and their mounted archery is slowly becoming a distinguishing mark when they return home mounted on quick ponies, with horn-layered shortbows.
This individuality is reflected in the flashy 'uniforms' of the streltsy. For Piotr's part, he wears dark red leather knee boots, a carefully whitened buff coat with blackened steel jack chains over a black linen jack, a black belt with brass fittings and a hook for his coiled whip, and a fur-trimmed red hat. His primary weapon as a streltsy granata are alchemical bombs, but he also carries a stonebow.
Piotr's long-term goal, in the course of his travel and study, is to see if perhaps his bombs might contain the secret to a more efficient, more frightening form of the stonebow.
