Heya folks,
Not too long till Christmas Eve, so happy holidays or appropriate seasonal message for all of you. Here's the rundown on what's been happening the last two months.
Races
Vanara are in a mild state of being stuck in a play by post, but once the new year hits they'll be made available regardless. Orcs are a single session away as an expedition of both orcs and humans, conveniently not murdering each other, has arrived on the shores of Illacrim and begun to set up a fledgling village. Time will tell how well they ultimately integrate with the threats of Salisara below them and uncertain allies all around.
Grippli have been unlocked and though their write up on the wiki is pending they're still fully available for use. Not only that but people remembered Undine have sneakily been around and a valid choice, their stealth so good they weren't added on the wiki when they were unlocked. As such that's 2 and soon to be 4 races added to the roster of choices. If anyone has suggestions for which races they'd like to see unlocked then post here. Admittedly based on previous experiences Catfolk and Kitsune are not valid choices but otherwise feel free.
Arcs
One suggestion in Discord amidst the GMs has been the potential for mini-campaigns within the DG world. Our nature of pick up games leads to a lack of continuity for many characters who don't have a set group within their level range, often bouncing about between locations and allies depending on the GM and what's being run. An arc, that players commit to joining for weekly sessions (or however frequent the GM decides for the sign up), would take a set group of adventurers within the DG world through a mini-campaign with the same GM and same allies for however long it's set up for.
This allows characters to grow and develop without the potentially hectic and surreal bouncing around that pick up games lends itself to. Characters in an arc would of course still be free to join other games, but would be heavily encouraged to only join arcs they can regularly commit to. Similarly if a GM has space in an arc session they another player who isn't signed up could take part if the spot is opened up. In a sense, it's like a 'home' campaign within DG that occasionally can have guests should a core member not be able to make it one week.
Another possibility that this opens up is actual party cohesion - it's all too frequent that you join a game and, thanks to the nature of players being who is available at the time, find out that there's no frontliner, or no caster, or no one who can use magic items, or no one is good at being a party face and so on. Arcs allow you to make characters with other players with the set goal of actually fitting as part of a well rounded group. Of course you could all just make wizards, because wizards but the option is there.
For the TL;DR crowd, Grippli and Undine are available for use, Orcs and Vanara by around the new year. 'Home' campaigns as a part of Dragons Gate. Till next time then.
