Session Date: 12/20/2016
GM Rayl - Talon(CL4)
Player Loot:
Azrealle: 3 influence
Fenix: 3 influence
Jarad: 3 influence
Influence: 2 base, +1 for warning the town of an impending invasion
Azrealle was in the village of Grimwick looking for work. As she searched the village for information, she both learned of a few mysterious disappearances and of a burned down farmhouse about a day's travel outside of town. Fenix and Jarad met up with her during this point, and the three of them left to investigate the house.
At the house, they discovered a number of drag marks leading away towards a known cave entrance to Salisara, as well as a few to the nearby barn. It was discovered the the house itself succumbed to arson, however the barn was left untouched by the flames. A thorough investigation of the house then took place with the party going from room to room, noting that anything metal that could realistically be used as a weapon seemed to be missing. In addition they found the bones of a female humanoid and a smaller humanoid in the cellar and the skeleton of another small humanoid under a burned-out bed, which Fenix treated extraordinarily lightly.
After searching the House, and the various mishaps they encountered in the burned-out crumbling husk, they investigated the barn. First noticing a tripwire at the top of the door, Azrealle climbed up the door to cut it with the intent of preventing the trap from activating. Cutting the tripwire however activated the trap, sending a wooden beam swinging into the door. Azrealle was lucky enough to jump away in time, and Jarad wasn't even close to it, but Fenix was hit by the door swinging open from the impact. In the barn the found the a few bodies, two elderly and a few children, staked into the floor, along with some bloodstains around. Searching the barn, Fenix found a symbol on the second floor, which Azrealle knew was the holy symbol of Mhar, the Dark Tapestry being of Mountains, Volcanoes, and Caverns.
With this information, they travel back to the village to tell the Mayor-Sheriff. He tells them he'll give them a larger reward if they deal with whoever did this, and the party accepts and decides to rest up before heading out into the caves. During their rest they are woken up by a scream, and run to investigate as they find a number of Duergar and the body of a woman. After a heated battle of various size shenanigans, invisibility, and what was later discovered to be a Grey Disciple Monk's ability to radiate darkness they defeated the grey dwarves. With one dead, and another escaped, they had three captives including the monk leader. After a failed escape attempt however, the leader and one of his subordinates were left in a burning pile. After questioning the last before executing him, they learned of how the Duergar were coming to the surface for slave raids, specifically to put them into the fighting pits. With Fenix and Jarad having seen the War Room with all the maps before, the quickly concluded that the Duergar were planning an invasion of the surface, and told the Mayor. The Mayor, after stating that he'd tell the other villages and try to get some mercenaries from the free cities, paid the three well for saving his village, and then promptly returned to his house to sleep.
