Zakryk, keen to explore the world for new opportunities, went to Arlen's temple to ask around for a traveling companion for safety. It wasn't long before he found Lin, someone he had briefly heard of before. Choosing Nyhavn as a starting point, they progressed through one of the convenient portals left in Arlen's temple for the workmen there. As they arrived, Zakryk pondered where to go to get some work, or at least chat to those who could know. Meanwhile Ebon, finishing up his lecturing, went to leave his place of work and bumped into an archaeologist who wished to hire him and preferably some others to retrieve some stone tablets from the plane of shadow, which would be immensely useful for study. Ebon was happy to accept, proceeding to one of the nearby districts often frequented by newcomers to the city. Through sheer chance he came across both Zakryk and Lin, who looked unusual enough to suggest their professions as sellswords. The pair were happy to accompany the expedition, and so the trio went to meet the archaeologist for further details. He was only too happy to explain his research. It concerned the worship of Zon-Kuthon, who was venerated in the plane of shadow. The two tablets the man was after detailed various aspects of the religion and essentially were icons of faith. He explained that one of his compatriots was studying the effects of faith manipulation of mental maladies, and since Zon-Kuthon was connected to aspects of depression then knowledge of his religion could give an avenue for treatment. He was able to give a location, describing the temple that the slabs supposedly resided in, and handed the group a pair of scrolls of plane shifting to assist in their travel there and back. It was agreed that they would set off the next day and the man explained that he'd be in Nyhaven for another week and a half so there should be more than ample time.
The next day, after Ebon had prepared sufficiently apt spells, the trio met up and shifted to the plane of shadow. Ebon, well versed in the planar cosmology and geography, realized they were quite far off target and in a pretty spooky wood. It wasn't an issue however as his magical might brought forth a trio of pretty damn fast magical horses and a mere four hours later they were at their location. They found that the 'temple' was in fact a whole settlement, the buildings and roadways formed to create a giant temple of worship to Zon-Kuthon. The area was bitterly cold, though once again Ebon was able to use his magic to ward himself and allies. As they dismounted and entered the town, they soon found themselves assaulted by tendrils of semi-sentient shadow. They soon found the touch numbing, though strong electricity was sufficient to dissipate them. The slabs were likely in the largest central building which was still fairly far away, though more magic solved that issue. When they got there, it was found like much of the rest of the town everything was encased in ice, including the doorways. Blunt force and electricity seemed to do nothing initially, though fire was found to slowly melt through. Once the area was weakened, more attacks finally allowed entrance. However since it was pitch blank and the group's darkvision couldn't penetrate it, no one wanted to go in. More exploration found an entrance at the top not covered in ice but again the darkness dissuaded everyone. Zakryk poked the darkness and was dismayed to find his rapier covered with a dark oil that tinted the metal and spead across all of it. Some experimentation revealed that acid removed the substance perfectly fine and once it was cleaned Ebon decided to test with his precious familiar. It seemed unaffected by the tint and related that underneath was apparently four stone slabs, not two, but otherwise they appeared to be what they were after. Ebon used a life bubble to see if he could bypass the dark film and was elated to find he was correct. Quickly loading up on the slabs just in case problems would arise. The trio, speading the weight slightly, quickly shifted back to the material plane and, once again off target, summoned more horses. It was a longer trip this time at six hours, but once they were back in Nyhavn the tablets were delivered to an ecstatic employer, who inquired as to where he could regularly contact them due to their remarkable competence in acquiring twice and many tablets in far less time than he anticipated.
