Reward as per Character Level
Session Date: 11/16/2016
GM Geckilian - Miere Klerrin (CL)
Player Loot:
Sev: Died and was revived - no reward.
Sirru: Blacklung Mine and Child Miners (Holdings), 3 Influence.
Kanir: Blacklung Mine and Child Miners (Holdings), 3 Influence.
Choompa: 2 Influence.
2 Influence base, +1 Sirru and Kanir for 'rescuing' some child miners.
Kanir was on the road to the Free Cities, mainly to see what paid work was there, and bumped into Sirru also making his way there. As the two got to talking, Choompa was coming back the other way after some fact finding for the Grippli and was convinced to join the pair as they looked for work, since it'd be a quick enough diversion. Upon arrival, the trio witness a rather disheveled man trying to hire a goblin 'assassin' to help him retake his house as thugs had beaten him up and thrown him out. Once the goblin, Sev, had disappeared to start the job, they walked up to also accept the work just in case Sev's plan fell through, and made their way to the man's house to scout out their opponents. As it turned out, those they were facing seemed pretty well prepared, a pair of guards standing outside. Sev scouted the place as Choompa did the same and, when Sev launched his attack, the other nonchalantly wandered closer preparing to take advantage of any mishaps from the guards. As it turned out, those guards were pretty good at their job, able to tie up a person in seconds with their pretty good teamwork. As the group went to help Sev to see if the job could be done, they swiftly found themselves knocked down, tied up helplessly against their will. Choompa and Kanir decided retreat was the far better option as Sirru and Sev remained behind, locked in spiked chains.
The guards however were deeply impressed by Sirru's tiny lockpicking insect, and were happy to talk if they weren't actively being attacked. With Sirru freeing himself and getting permission to go inside and collect the employer's books, admittedly for his own use, he swiftly caught up with Kanir and enlisted his help to carry them out. Sev meanwhile was given the option to go and kill his employer for slightly more gold and the mercenary assassin agreed, fully intending to come back and kill them all anyway to maintain his integrity. Choompa, pretty spooked by the whole endeavor and determined to go and warn the Grippli as to the type of people in the Free Cities, headed out and back down the route he'd initially been taking. Sirru and Kanir perused the books, finding much of their lore somewhat incomprehensible and thus decided to sell them, before also heading out to see what other work they could find. Sev however indeed returned to the man who had initially employed him, successfully stabbing him enough times to kill him whilst simultaneously resisting his arcane arts. Dragging the man's corpse to the thugs, he was rewarded with mild surprise when they confessed they didn't think he'd actually come back. They promptly killed him and threw his corpse out onto the streets. A passing mortuary cult member, seeing such callous disregard for a body, picked up Sev's mangled form and returned him to the land of the living at a nearby shrine, allowing Sev to reflect on his vow of silence whilst a job was incomplete. The bandits would (eventually) have to die.
Kanir and Sirru, traveling after a few rumours, came across the Blacklung Mine - all the miners were minors and the man in charge, who was very much an adult, seemed to be exploiting them for little to no pay. Conferring briefly, the duo came to a decision and killed the man with little effort, stating to the children that they were now free of him, but worked for them. In this at least the children were to receive a moderate wage and wouldn't have to toil in the mines - they'd just need to rove out and kidnap people who could be forced into slavery to do so in their place. In a strange way, it seemed like a form of slavery pyramid scheme. One of the kids, more savvy than the rest, agreed to help run the whole deal for a reasonable bump in wages and to ensure that if Kanir or Sirru had to go off to continue their mercenary work then it'd at least keep running in their absence. Though not the most conventional of work projects, at least Sirru and Kanir now had the foundations for eventual retirement should they reach old age.
