Taicho, Mike and Choompa met in a tavern called 'The Last Recourse' in a small town centered around one of the larger entrances to Salisara in the area. The group discussed what they could do to earn some coin, with Taicho suggesting going to the nearest under-settlement in the caverns and scouting a job as per usual. Reginald overheard the conversation and introduced himself, as did Selesu. After they got to know each other slightly more they gathered their gear and headed to the mine entrance. It was an easy journey till the drop to a lower level. Though the climb was simple enough, Choompa took it upon himself to stealth ahead towards to settlement just in case of any danger. The group, suddenly noticing the little goblin gone, decided to play it safe and spend several minutes looking for Choompa using various rocks lit up with magic. This disappearance, coupled with Mike's rabbit being scared, led the group deeper into fear, and they took their time to ensure they would not be ambushed by anything. When they were as sure as they could be that there were no monsters around, and slightly spooked by the clattering sounds coming from the path southwards towards the enclave, they followed the tunnel south. Almost immediately they found a sock, followed by another and indeed a trail of them. Just before the settlement they found Choompa perfectly safe and sound, wondering why they had taken so long to follow.
After a brief conversation to at least warn them before sneaking off, the group went to head into the cavern. They were immediately confronted with a scene of ruinous devastation - the entire settlement was dead. Pinned to walls and tents, desecrated, mutilated and all around flensed and carved. Sitting around the fire were a quartet of drow - one larger muscular male and two svelte females were armoured in dark lamellar. The fourth wore a spidersilk robe and was clearly in charge. One of the armoured ladies stood and invited the group, offering them payment for coming closer. Declining, the party went to edge away, only to notice Choompa had once again gone missing without notice. Quizzing the dorw revealed that they had been laughing as they hadn't been the ones to commit such atrocities, but they had certainly been intending to. Noticing Selesu's drow heritage, the lady in charge actively offered him his birthright of experiences should he join - this Selesu declined. As the group went to fully withdraw even without Choompa, hoping he'd slipped away, they noticed that the drow had spotted him on a building within the cavern. As the drow moved to engage, the party decided to come to his aid even against a drow raiding party.
The fight was long and protracted, the drow's skill at arms insufficient to land a blow on Choompa. Hexes and spells flex, unable to truly affect either side and a single drow female slipped within the rest of the group to harass them with her knives. Choompa landed several shots of impressive aim on the male drow, puncturing him severely. Selesu deftly summoned forth a servant of earth who proceeded to lay the absolute smackdown on the female drow harassing them before it finally returned to the earth. Choompa had led the two drow chasing him back to the group and, combined with the drow matron losing patience, the tide of battle swiftly turned. Reginald fell to magical fires as Taicho, his mighty swings connecting with nothing but air, was deftly sliced to the ground by the male drow. With one of the raiding party healing the single drow they had downed as a group, the party decided retreat really was the order of the day and fled, leaving the bodies of their companions behind. Regrouping in the tavern after a hasty retreat, the group pondered what to do.
The barkeep was informed of the fate of the town and suggested they could ask the Blackfeathers for help, a small group of sellswords who often delved into Salisara. Quickly finding them and telling them of the cleared settlement secured the help they needed. With escort the party returned down to the cavern and looted the hell out of the place before receiving help carrying the bodies of their allies back. A hefty delivery of food to the mortuary priests saw them only too happy to help and soon Reginald and Taicho were back on their feet and talons respectively. Mike, in a generous moment, bought everyone in the tavern a round and toasted to the memory of the little settlement that had been wiped out. If the patrons knew or cared that their ales had been bought with the currency of the recently dead then they showed no sign, downed the drinks in one and returned to their empty bitter lives.
