Meeting up to plumb the depths of Salisara once again, the group came across Mike. Relatively new to the sellsword life, he found the appearances of most of the group somewhat bizarre but joined them anyway. Advancing to find a relatively well equipped and prepared settlement, the party inquired about jobs. The leader was confused as to their eclectic appearance but was happy to hire them to go roughly 150 feet deeper underground to recover some ancient chests that had recently been revealed by water erosion of the rock that had encased them. He provided a small measure of advice to Mike who had asked, and the group set themselves to preparing. Several members traded for additional rope just in case, before they headed out together. Not actually having a planned route, Mike had spoken to one of the guards and asked how to gte lower down, to which the guard had pointed out one of the tunnels leading out as a good starting point. Not too long after taking the tunnel, and with Choompa stealthily ranging ahead, the rest of the group came across some rock debris scattered haphazardly on the ground. With cracks on the wall that suggested the way ahead wasn't fully stable, Princess Bees insisted the way ahead be checked fully. As rocks were moved aside with a quarterstaff it was revealed that one had been on a pressure plate. It's removal caused the ceiling to collapse, allowing Princess Bees to exclaim in triumph at being right before getting pelted by falling rocks. Though the way back had been collapsed everyone was generally alright, able to dig themselves free with only a little effort needed.
The cave in seemed like it'd take no more than half an hour to remove according to Mike's estimation, so it was left as a method to safeguard the group's collective back. Continuing down and following the tunnels led to a nicely sized cavern directly underneath where they had been hired - complete with pools of bioluminescent insects and surrounding mosses, lichen and fungi. As they inspected the place, danger followed - specially a choking hazard, which suddenly lifted Talon up to the ceiling as he thought to actually check upwards, swiftly strangling him, crushing his windpipe and dropping him to the ground unconscious in one fell swoop. The rest of the party reacted as fast as they could, Choompa peppering the small hunchbacked thing with arrows as it lashed out and managed to haul Mike up into the air. A well placed shot from Choompa ended it's miserable life before it could end Mike's, sending him crashing to the ground gasping for breath and thankful for the goblin's accuracy. Taking a moment to ensure everyone was alright, Princess Bees and Fenix healed everyone up with their wands.
Scouting the cavern, Choompa found that the only other way out, aside from the entrance they had used, was a narrow crevice in one of the walls. Small as he was, he easily crawled inside. Princess Bees was able to use a scroll to similarly shrink and follow, though it was rougher going for everyone else. After several claustrophobic minutes for everyone, Choompa found that there was an opening below that had a drop of just over thirty feet - easily climbable with rope. This was quickly secured as everyone began to steadily climb down. However watching from below was a disheveled old man, who swiftly gibbered to himself at the armed and armoured interlopers to his home, so he cast grease on their rope. Talon quickly lost his grip and fell, knocking Choompa free as he did so. Princess managed to hold on and Mike and Fenix hadn't yet started climbing down. Faster to react then the group, the old man then greased the floor where they landed before retreated, hoping they would take the warning and punishment and leave him be/ Not so, for these were intrepid adventurers! Mike and Fenix let down a second rope as the old man, worried that the invaders weren't leaving, filled the air with glittering dust to blind and confuse them. This didn't work, and as he retreated behind a corner Princess threw a lit sunrod to pinpoint where he was.
Mike, seeing the coast was clear and hearing encouragement from Princess, began to climb down as everyone generally picked themselves up and made sure they were healthy. The old man, hearing the group dusting themselves off and showing no signs of leaving rushed in to give them a significantly bigger incentive to leave. However as he did so he saw Mike climbing down and panicked at yet another one invading his home, so greased the rope. Mike fell, though his hardy nature meant the fall was nothing more than a mild inconvenience. The old man however regretted his rashness as he was quickly set on fire and fell, burning and dying. Princess quickly rushed up to him and used smelling salts to bring him round after he was put out so he could be asked questions as the rest of the group made their way to surround him. Lightheaded and in pain from the mild burns, and still dying, the old man blearily tried to work out was was happening when Talon threated him with a knife to the face. Still unsure of what was really going on, he batted it out of the way and went to stand up.
Talon used this opportunity to swiftly and mercilessly plunge the knife critically into the man's eye, killing him instantly. Mike looked on, mildly horrified at the callous murder of a prisoner, even more unsettled as Talon carved the symbol of Charon on the old man's corpse. The corpse twitched suddenly however, and everyone rapidly backed away and threw more fire at the movement. The stomach burst open to reveal a fleshy centipede-like creature which keened with the sound of a small child as it burnt to death. Shaken by what he had seen, Fenix barely had time to notice more of them on the ceiling as they began to drop in his hair, their little rotating maws trying to burrow under his skin. In a panic he ran in circles as Princess calmly sniped each one off of him over and over, pinning several to the wall with extremely well placed arrows. One managed to leap from Fenix to Choompa and that, too, was pinned to a wall. As Fenix began to calm down however another on the floor managed to find purchase in his leg, swiftly burrowing under his flesh and coming to rest on his shin bone. In a fit of mad bravery, not to mention desperation, Fenix annihilated the burrowing parasite by blasting a chunk out of his own leg with a ray of his own inherent elemental power. With the wound rapidly festering and causing the flesh to slough off, the group as a whole rushed to his aid. Princess applied a strong tourniquet as Talon, with direction, failed to help Fenix for almost half a minute before managing to adequately sever the leg and heal over the wound. This prevented the necrotic flesh from spreading further, though to be sure it was swiftly set on fire which caused Choompa some distress.
Realising that they had no real direction aside from 'down' and that one of them was missing a leg, the party elected to find a small cavern and rest up, ready to continue once everyone was better rested and mentally prepared for the trials ahead of them.
