Reward as per Character Level
Session Date: 10/07/2016
GM Geckilian - Miere Klerrin (CL)
Player Loot:
Talon: No reward - died. Body recovered and revived.
Taicho: 3 Influence.
Choompa: 3 Influence.
Milene: 3 Influence.
2 Influence base, +1 for taking down a giant darkmantle.
A brief retelling - Taicho, Choompa and Talon met up to once more delve into the depths of Salisara. As they did so they encountered Milene, a mild mannered girl aesthetically dressed somewhat like a wasp. Passing off her eccentricity as fairly standard for someone in Salisara, they travelled from one small settlement to another to check for jobs. Sure enough, the small group of only around twelve they encountered had work. They had been forced to move as during the night darkmantles had attacked and picked several of them off. Ample pay would be provided to anyone happy to go there, up to a day away in distance, to clear out the new next and recover the supplies left behind. Confident as a quartet they could manage it, the group headed off without Milene as she had disappeared, only to be joined by Princess Bees, a bee-themed heroine who clearly had nothing to do with wasps. Not too long after they had set out, they encountered one of the pits they had been warned about, though a quick few attempts with rope and some braced climbing saw everyone aside from Talon manage to cross safely. talon had a slight fall but remained conscious, pulled up to safety. The other side however revealed a different danger - tiny blood sucking bats!
The tiny menaces began latching on and draining the blood from their victims, proving surprisingly difficult to hit since they were on people's necks. Eventually they were dealt with, one of them sniped off Taicho's neck by a well placed bow shot from Princess. With Talon's magic unable to help, the group decided to press on and eventually came across a bigger cavern. As they went to move forwards Taicho gestured for them to stop. Pulling out his bow and firing at the ceiling not only revealed a large darkmantle, bigger than they had ever before seen, but also agitated it into attacking. Talon, thinking quickly, sent it fleeing in fear as his power frightened it. After it fled they decided to chase it anyway since it had gone in the direction they believed was the right one. Sure enough mere minutes later they spotted it at the end of another cavern, the path mired by stalagtites, stalagmites and a lot of bats. Talon let off a burst of negative energy, killing all the nearest, then rapidly retreated as the remaining cluster of bats took flight. Their harrying strikes drained some blood from talon as one got lodged in his hood, but Taicho aided him by aiming his katana at his head. Unfortunately he missed, cutting Talon down as he flailed around, though the bat was disloged and killed by Choompa in the process.
Swiftly healing Talon, Taicho and the group reasoned that the giant darkmantle was likely worth a good reward, but they could sneak past it and deal with it later. As they went to move on however it detected them, dropping down towards them. A hard fought battle ensued as its hide proved resilient to most attacks, though the group landed several telling blows. Taicho almost went down, spared as it went for the wounded Talon and grabbed him, slashing his face with its beak and causing him to black out, bleeding from his wounds. As the group continued to wear the monster down, its movement progressively becoming more sluggish as Princess pelted it with snow, Talon slowly bled all over the floor. At least realising how close he was to death, Princess and Taicho rushed over to staunch the bleeding but their attempts were for naught - Talon bled out moments before Choompa landed the final shot that pierced the darkmantle's brain and heart in one. Resolving to bring the darkmantle back for a reward, and since Talon was clearly in need of help, the group returned to where they had been hired. Talon, returned once again to his feet and even paler than before, not to mention sporting new scars, was able to reflect on his mortality, knowing that each time he passed beyond he got closer to his Lord Charon's realm...
