It is said that anyone needs just one bad day to go insane.
In a way, that is exacly what happened to Zarall, fortunately in a good way. He grew up and became a moderately succesful architect and builder, just as his father before him. It was a steady and rewarding job. Long days spent over maps and charts, followed by overseeing the construction of buildings, streets or monuments.
This steady life was interuppted by strange dreams of a cloaked man who acted as a mentor over a gathering of all architects and builders from his city. During these meetings new and revolutionary plans for the whole city were created. The strangest thing was that all builders remembered these dreams perfectly and dreamed them exacly the same...
From outside the changes weren't truly visible, but it didn't long before the Cartographers and Architects Guild became a religious order to a strange force that presented itself as a god of cities and civilization. The majority of the guild members stayed at home to oversee the Grand Design, but the younger and more fiery members were given leave to travel the world as active agents. Their goal is simple in theory: to uphold the spirit of civilization by helping cities grow in the orderly and planned fashion.
Zarall is just such an agent, an optimistic young man who feels divinely inspired to help other civilized beings. Just as the majority of the Guild he believes that it is the surroundings impact that shapes the person character, so it a resposibility of the educated to shape the cities itself to promote good and various virtues (it is easy to be miserable and evil if everything stinks of shit).
With some practical gear and a loyal dog he is ready to help others with a good word, a helping hand and if all else fails, a blade or spell.
