Session Date: 09/29/2016
GM Geckilian - Miere Klerrin (CL)
Player Loot:
Azraelle: No reward - died. Body recovered by the mortuary cult and revived.
Turlagh: 1 Influence.
Sev: 1 Influence.
Leon: 1 Influence.
2 Influence base, -1 for not completing the mission.
Given transportation to Salisara by a kindly patron, Turlagh met up with Sev, Leon and Azraelle at the edge of one of the caverns in Salisara. The settlement, a modest forty five people strong, was riled rather quickly as Leon went in to find work, intimidating one of the leaders for information. Faced with the rising anger of the settlers, Leon walked towards them and demanded they get out of his way lest people die. He quickly died. The rest of the group quickly made sure to clearly get across that they 'were not with that guy' and, after things calmed down, went to talk to one of those who had helped summarily kill Leon. As it turns out he did have work - a crypt of some kind, approximately an hour and a half away through cramped tunnels, had several relics he was after to help boost the defence of their little enclave. Confident in their abilities even without an ally none of them really knew anyway, the group headed off. It was mere minutes later than they were ambused by shadows, and as half the group hung back to carefully aplly oils to their weapons, Turlagh was quickly surrounded and worn down. With his strength ebbing, he reteated as best as he could and repeatedly tried to utilize a scroll to send a message requesting help. Sev came to his aid, holding off the shadows for long enough for Turlagh's weasel to activate the scroll. With his patron appearing and eradicating the shadows, as well as restoring their strength, Turlagh suggested going back to the enclave and possibly preparing more for the dangers ahead.
It wasn't long before the group had arrived back, conversed with their employer and prepared the ability to see in the dark for Turlagh, so as to put away his iountarget torch. Heading back out, now with a newly 'recovered' Leon, the quartet managed to travel for half an hour before this time spotting the ambush clearly. This time they prepared quicker, but the shadows were wise to their tricks and attacked from hard to reach places, confounding the group's attacks. Turlagh was once again quickly surrounded, but now with more allies the shadows were driven back. With fire in his eyes, Leon was even able to frighten one of the incorporeal undead, sending it fleeing. As Azraelle went slightly ahead to provide a tactical advantage as more of the shadows were eradicated or driven away, another more gaunt individual appeared, exhibiting shadowy traits. As Azraelle lashed out at it she was very surprised indeed as it batted her weapon away, lunging forward to rake at her. Another swift hit and she crumpled to the floor, her shadow blossoming to an unlife of it's own.
Seeing their ally getting utterly demolished and joining the ranks of the enemy, the rest of the group immediately turned tail and fled rather than face the same fate. Though it was touch and go for Turlagh as he was pursued, they eventually left the threat behind and trudged back to the settlement where they had been hired. Naturally disappointed that they had not accomplished his task, but at least thankful they had attempted it, their employer reclaimed the vials he had given them to help, and the group went on their way, glad to be alive. Aside from Azraelle that is, whose body was recovered by one of the many mortuary cults in Salisara and returned to life, albeit with a somewhat paler complexion...
