The location formerly used by Miere Magicks is currently under construction, and a large amount of excavation is occuring, and a large group of humans are constructing a large mansion. City Officials speak of a man with a very heavy coin purse, and a thick accent, by the name of Fadil Legerdermain.

Having had the fact brought to his attention by acquaintances and friends in Rook, Miere will visit the site out of interest for the newcomer. Seeing the workers, Miere will raise a hand in greeting and nod to the nearest.
"Hello there. I can't help but notice this is a very nice property taking shape in an auspicious location. Is the prospective owner around at all?" he'll say.

The laborer will wave down his foreman, and point him Miere's way. The foreman approaches "Greetings, you had a question about the owner?"

With a smile, Miere will nod and remove his hat. "Yes," he'll say, "I was the previous owner so it's always interesting learning who's taking over, so to speak. I was wondering if he was around to meet?"

The foreman will have a dawn of realization, "Oh, hmmmm well... I don't think he is right now, but I'm sure if you'd like to meet him, it can be arranged. How long will you be in town?"

"Oh, I can usually be in town whenever is convenient to be honest. Here."
Taking out a piece of parchment, ink and quills, Miere will deftly write a letter of introduction to Fadil Legerdermain, aiming for a polite hello and desire to meet the man who has taken up the mantle of such a prime trading location. Though he'll at least aim at being subtle about it, Miere's hand will split in to multiple strands, each writing different parts of the letter to expedite the process. Quickly blotting the finished letter, Miere will neatly fold it 'one handed' and offer it to the foreman.
"This should suffice to introduce myself. Also, as I was remiss to introduce myself, my name is Miere Klerrin. A pleasure to make your acquaintance." he'll say, a friendly smile on his face.

The foreman attempts to cover up a look of terror as Miere's hand splits in to multiple parts, suddenly his composure shifts slightly, suggesting a less friendly demeanor, "Is there any address he can write back to for delivery, or is this just a dead drop?"

Chuckling at the man's reaction, Miere will flick his hand back in to form. "Apologies, it's a habit these days, you always forget the malleable form can be a surprise to those not used to it. If you don't mind me asking, what was your name again?" (Take 10 of 74 Diplomacy to improve disposition as a standard action.)
Gesturing to the building down the road, Miere will nod. "Over there is a shop owned by a Mr. Dryth Skye, a friend of mine and quite the prolific artisan. Any reply addressed there will reach me remarkably quickly."

The foreman will stutter, "Uh me? M-My name is George, George Geravin, I lead a team of constructors for hire. Oh? right over there? excellent. I'll make sure he gets this."

With a bright grin, Miere will clap his hands together. "Excellent, thank you George. I periodically expand the buildings I own, so if it's alright with you would you mind me keeping you in mind for future construction projects? Your team are impressively fast at their work and I find it always pays to hire consummate professionals."

George smiles, "Sure, I'd be glad to have the extra business, though I think after this job a couple of my men might just retire"

"That tends to be how it goes with high paying jobs. Thanks for your time George, I'll be going on to visit Dryth. Take care." he'll say. Raising a hand in farewell, Miere will put on his hat again then walk down the street towards Dryth's store, planning to inform him and Varian just in case it turns out to be important, given the levels of gold involved.

A sorcerer, an angel, a plant girl and a plant angel horse, a wolf man, an unusually fluent barbarian, a man of fire, and a kobold with a draconic scorpion of acid all check out the building at various times through the week. They all introduce themselves in their own unique ways before continuing along.

The Plant girl is not received well. The Kobold gets a funny look from most everyone working on sight. All others are treated with slight disdain from the workers, but good manners by the foreman, George.

Varian is spending the afternoon drifting lazily through the clouds north of Rook holding meetings and conducting other business. Whenever he has a free moment he continues his own studies, of course, but the oppressive boredom of the day was making even that wonderful respite hard to come by. Dryth.. are you there? These meetings are ineffably boring.. he thought, sending the message telepathically to the fastest crafter on Orr.

Removing his hat and loosening his scarf, Miere nods to Dryth. "Hello again. I popped by to mention that my previous plot of land is being built on by someone with a lot of gold and likely using a pseudonym. No one else has heard of them and they paid four times the going rate to get the job done quickly."
Gesturing to a seat and raising an eyebrow for permission, Miere will sit if allowed. "Whoever it is, they're also having the workers excavate down, suggesting to me at least some form of lair or research chambers. For the wealth displayed it's interesting to note they didn't choose the Chalice district, but rather where my business used to be." he'll say.
Easing some of the tension in his shoulders, Miere will then shrug. "Considering the usual political machinations in Rook it seemed unusual enough that a rich person no one knows about has moved in. I left a letter of introduction with the foreman on the site. With luck he'll get me a meeting, and the return address is here since I no longer live in Rook." Tapping his head, Miere will say, "It may be worth letting Varian know, just in case."
Taking his own advice, Miere will also telepathically inform Rainen of the new landowner in Rook.

Upon hearing rumors of said new construction upon Miere's old shop lemon would like to inquire through the nobles that frequent his estate to learn more of this upstart new noble that seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Sending out servants to see what's going on and to ask his courtesans for more "behind closed doors" information.

"well that is certainly interesting..." Dryth appears to focus on something else for a moment "Varian actually just contacted me and I informed him that you were here, he may be stopping by." Dryth pauses, looks at the notes he was working on, frowns a little bit. "they were digging down you say? how high did the structure appear to be, and how far into the ground did they appear to be digging?" "With the strange happenings going on in Dis recently I would not be surprised if someone would purchase land here to keep an eye on Rook, there has been an inordinate amount of interplay between Rook and Dis recently, but they would probably not be so obvious about it...."
Dryth pauses another moment "would you be willing to split the cost of a permanent Telepathic Bond with me so that I can keep you abreast of the situation here? If not I will eat the cost but things are starting to heat up here and your help is always beneficial." "I will keep an eye on the project and keep you aware of any changes, I may even be able to get one of my associates to join the construction team for a closer look at the actual building."
"would you care to wait for Varian? and see what he has to say about this?"

Miere will shrug again, before saying, "I honestly didn't go and have a closer look at the excavation, I doubt it would have gone well. I hadn't thought of the Dis connection, but if I were wanting to keep tabs on Rook I'd simply use your stores."
Reaching in his pocket, Miere will take out a pouch of some platinum coins and weigh it in his hand. "I certainly don't mind splitting the cost with you Dryth, it makes sense to have us all connected in some way or another." he'll say, before deftly passing the pouch to Dryth. "As for Varian, I'll happily wait, sure."

Dryth does some research gathering while waiting for Varian, attempts to Scry on the build site and where the workers go at night. He discovers a few things
1. Scrying fails on the bunkhouse that the workers go at night and on the build site itself during the day. 2. The workers do nothing but go to work, go to the bunkhouse, go back to work, they don't go out to eat or a bar. 3. There is no information available on the construction company itself, it is as if they don't exist. 4. Workers are under some form of enchantment.
Dryth shares this information with Miere and Varian when they arrive.

With a small pop Varian appears within the shop looking ever-so-slightly disheveled. "Took me longer than expected to get out of that last meeting, and I apologize. Student disciplinary matters that apparently couldn't be handled by my administrator," he said, conjuring a comfortable and functional chair and taking a seat. He spends just a moment tapping his index fingers together while listening to Dryth reveal additional information.
"So Miere's shop space is being used as construction for something secretive that's either being built for the spot, or potentially excavated for what might lay beneath it. I also believe you entirely too competent to just so happen to leave behind any particularly sinister devices or artifacts," he continues, giving Miere a nod of acknowledgement. "I also imagine worker quarters aren't typically shielded from divinations, but again that's obvious. It seems we have quite the mystery."

A human wearing a big grin will enter Dryth's Shop, carrying a small envelope which has been sealed with wax, with the name Miere Klerrin written on in in a very elegant script, and then very loudly recite the following "I am Terrance Dobleforth, here to deliver a message to one Dryth Skye, or one Varian Jaskas, on behalf on one Fadil Legerdermain. That message is this: The envelope I have just given to you is to be opened only by one Miere Klerrin, may any who violate my brush be buried in the sound such that only their hands remain above browned, and be trampled upon by one thousand elephants. Though I'm not quite sure the relevance of that last bit, his accent sure is hard to understand, plus I'm pretty sure that this Miere fella can do whatever he wants with the envelope, it's his letter, anyways. Can someone just sign for delivery, please?", and with that, will shove a small red book in the face of whoever is closest to the foor. It has: Dryth Skye/Varian Jaskas on the left, and a line on the right on the bottom most line. Above that are several other names, with several other blank spaces, including, notably, Zil Vilemia, as well as several noblemen within the city, though no one of house Malfuron.

makes a mental note of all the names, and the lack of Malfuron's name. He signs for the letter, then starts doing some research on the term used to "curse" anyone who opened it incorrectly. He then also researches the names on the list and what they may have in common and who might be missing in addition to Malfuron.
