Adventurers Seek Silence?

Jermy Thrushwood, an everyday resident of Rook, was recently attacked by those calling themselves adventurers. Now why would this normal Rook resident attract the attention of those that seem to hold themselves above the law? Jermy has drawn attention due to his opinion of the adventuring lifestyle. Jermy is one of the many Rook residents that see adventurers as a disease that is slowly corrupting our once fair city.
Jermy can often be heard speaking out in many parts of the Rook Slums. It seems that his outcry has drawn the ire of some of Rooks resident adventurers. On the fourth of Brewfest, Jermy was enjoying a normal day in his home when one of the alarm spells he had paid for was triggered. Realizing he had very little time, Jermy was just able to hide when a tiefling burst into the room he was in.
Jermy as agreed to tell us his experience that day. “At first I was not sure who had set off the alarm. I sometimes have visitors but they usually are polite enough to knock. I was about to go see who it was when I heard the rapid footsteps of someone running. I had just enough time to dive behind a dresser when a tiefling burst into the room. He had sickly translucent teal skin with what seemed to be a demonic glow. He had some of the biggest horns I have ever seen on a tiefling. He scanned the room with a twitchy snarl. I have never been so scared in my entire life. I knew this would be my end. At any second he would notice me and I would just be another notch on his sword.”
After taking a moment to collect himself, Jermy continues his harrowing experience, “By the grace of the gods, he seemed to have not noticed me. Giving a snarl that would be more fitting for an animal, the tiefling crossed the room in a second. I have never seen someone move so fast. It was like the movement of an animal. The tiefling crossed the room faster than I could follow and cut the back door of my house into pieces with one swing of his sword. Before the pieces of the door had even completely fallen he was racing out the door. I was so scared I could hardly move. I was frozen in place with my heart pounding in my ears. It was a good thing too, as not a minute later the tiefling came back. Again it was only by the grace of the gods that he did not see me because I knew if he did I would not be long for this world.”
Is this the kind of people adventures are? Will they kill you just because you speak out about them? Are the people of Rook really safe with so many adventurers walking our streets? These are the questions I ask myself as I listen to Jermy’s story. I too, once thought that adventurers were a good thing for Rook but as time continues I see that I was wrong. Adventurers continue to go about their day thinking they are above the good people of Rook. They seem to think we are not real people. That we do not have lives and families. Can we really be safe in our own city when those with power see us as nothing but animals?
