In the light of recent events, I'd like to ask for there to be definitive clarification on what can spark an alignment shift, and when those changes can happen. I personally don't want to see another argument about why a character has suddenly been declared to drop down (or over) in their alignment because of the actions they take in character.
I know, it seems like something that should be transparent, but apparently, it's not transparent enough. One person's interpretation of the alignments can be and has been in conflict with the interpretations of the GMs. While I am perfectly happy to abide by GM decisions myself, I want to avoid another issue where someone contests the ruling and will not let it go even when the matter is seemingly settled.
Please do this.

As far as I know a CN character straight murdered two children because they felt like it.
That's pretty Evil. There may be some GM differentiation with alignments, but I don't think any reasonable GM, or player, would disagree that someone who murders kids for fun is Evil.

Like I said, I know it appears cut-and-dry. It is to me as well.
And yet, it seems like there's always some room for argument, or at the least one can find one if they are so inclined. And even with the SRD's statements on alignments, there is a degree of subjectivity.
That's why I'm asking for an official, objective statement on what things can force an alignment change, and whether or not the change is instantaneous or only happens after the session ends. Especially that last part, since the timing seems to be a big point of contention.

I see no need if it's nothing more than an isolated issue.

People just need to realize the alignment system in Pathfinder isn't subjective.

I really doubt it's anyones opinion that murdering children for fun has some angle that could be non-Evil.

Okay, then that part does not need to be clarified. Again, I understand and agree with that.
As for the timing part, does it happen instantaneously? (I know what I would do in that case, but I just want to make sure it's crystal clear if this should come up again.)

Acting grossly in contrast with the alignment printed on your sheet will cause an instant shift because the character wasn't given the proper alignment to begin with.

Thank you. I'm glad that is settled now. May there be no more questions about this.

Also while its not apparent from the perspective of non GMs, I was talking with several of the GMs watching the session on PMs and the GM chat so its less of a unilateral decision than it may seem.
