There is a saying that many people, both common and noble, often quote. “The pen is mightier than the sword.” It is a simple saying that has been passed around for much longer than most people have been alive. It is a simple saying but true never the less.
Still, how can one say that a pen can be more powerful than a sword? No, a pen by its self it not mightier than the sword, but its function is what causes it to out shine a sword’s edge. A pen is used to convey the spoken word in to written form. So, then a person can derive from this saying that the spoken word is mightier than a sword.”
This was a belief Hydrus lived by. Growing up Hydrus was a scrawny thing. More bone then muscle with pale skin stretched over thin limbs. Many children that grow up weak are usually stepped on by those stronger and more fit them themselves. Hydrus though had something going for him that many children do not have until they grow into adults. Hydrus even as a child was very charismatic. He could talk his way out of almost any situation and could even make even his enemy’s like him.
Hydrus cultivated this charisma and made it into a weapon he could wield just as easily as a blade or bow. As he grew others took note of his charisma and many tried to take advantage of it. Eventually Hydrus won himself an apprenticeship under one of Rooks top negotiators. It took many years but Hydrus’s master eventually decided Hydrus had enough experience to become a journeyman of the trade. To test his skills Hydrus decided to take on adventuring. No negotiation was harder when both parties wanted to kill the other and if Hydrus could persuade even harden adventurers then nobles and diplomats would be a cake walk.
