After a few weeks of adventuring, Adris decides to pay his parents a visit.
"Hello Mother, Hello Father," he says. "I'm glad to see you're well. I suppose you've heard by now I've given up my post in the Guard and joined up with Rook's adventurers."
"Aye, that we have, son," says his mother. "Watch yourself now, those adventurers are a shifty bunch. But they do have plenty of coin to spend; we've been able to retire quite comfortably with the money we've made through the shop."
"Actually, that's why I'm here today," Adris replies. "Now that I'm no longer a Guardsman, I'd like to pick up the family business again. My smithing skills are a little rusty, but I'm sure with a little practice I can pick it back up easily enough."
"Well son, we do still own the smithy, but we're too old to work it anymore," says his father. "That old forge hasn't been fired up in years, and the rest of the shop has seen better days, as well."
"Not to worry, Father. As you say, adventurers have plenty of coin. I'll have the place up and running again in no time."
"Well, it would warm my old heart to see a fire in the forge again. Alright, I'll handle the paperwork to transfer ownership of the building over to you. Take good care of it, y'hear?"
Adris thanks his parents and remains with them throughout the day, catching up and telling stories about his adventures so far. After lunch, he sets off in search of some workers who can help him renovate the smithy.

Grand Re-Opening! Burche's Armory has been closed for many years due to the retirement of its proprietor. Now ownership has passed from father to son, and the shop is once again open for business.
As you enter the store, you see several suits of armor on display. Many shields and a few weapons line the walls. In the rear of the shop is a forge, with an obviously old and battle-worn shield hanging prominently above it; on the shield, a sharp-eyed observer might be able to make out faint etchings of a lion and turtle.
A large burly man looks up from the forge, wipes the sweat off his face, and extends his hand in greeting. "Welcome to Burche's Armory! I'm Adris Burche, how may I help you?"

As Adris works at his forge and reflects on recent events, a man enters the shop. Adris offers his usual greeting. "Good morning, Mr. Burche," says the man. "I'm not looking to buy anything today, but you do have something I want. My name is Tom Dalton, and I come representing Rook's chapter of the Empyreal Guardians." "Empyreal Guardians?" Adris replies. "Yes, the name rings a bell... but what do you want with me?" "Well, word has reached us about the deeds you and your paladin friend performed for Ron Turner and his daughter. Quite an impressive feat: rescuing that girl from an evil cult, helping guide her back to the light and restore peace to her family, and then ensuring that the cult would no longer trouble anyone else. I did some research on you, and I must say, your record with the Guard is equally impressive. A man like you would be a welcome addition to our order. I am here to offer you an invitation to join us." "I am honored by your words," says Adris, "but I cannot make such a decision lightly. Return here tomorrow and I'll give you an answer." "As you wish," replies Tom as he takes his leave. Adris spends the rest of the day learning all he can about the Empyreal Guardians, and spends the evening contemplating the group and its ideals. The next day, Tom returns and once again offers his invitation to Adris. Adris reaches out to shake Tom's hand. "Yes, I believe our goals are in agreement. I will join you."

Arenia walks in. "Hello, my good man. I wish to procure some higher-quality armor. Specifically, I am looking for something in...mithril. I like my armor light but durable. Would you craft a mithral shirt for me?" She flashes a smile. "After all, I can't do any good if I'm dead."

Adris's face becomes slightly downcast. "I wish I could help you, but I'm afraid that working with mithral is a bit beyond my abilities at the moment. Perhaps in a few months I'll have honed my craft to that point, but for now all I could offer you is an ordinary chain shirt. If you're dead set on mithral, you might wish to seek out someone a bit more... experienced."

"I appreciate the honesty," she replied. "I wish you success, and may your skills improve with time."

After the disheartening visit from Arenia, Adris begins thinking. Adventurers have access to a wide variety of equipment, some with downright wondrous powers. Perhaps there's some way to enhance his smithing ability?
Hanging around at the Plow, he hears one of the more veteran adventurers mention something called Ioun Stones. Even the most inexpensive of them can grant a small boost to one's abilities. He seeks out a merchant specializing in such wares and purchases a cracked scarlet and blue sphere. The merchant shows him how to activate the stone, and he takes it back to his forge to try it out.
The orbiting stone is a little distracting at first, but he quickly grows accustomed to it as he notices his hammer striking a little more true and his fingers working slightly more deftly than they did before. With this little boost, he feels confident that he is now able to create armors of masterful quality.

A very short, red-headed boy walks in. "Ello, Adris. Hope you've been doing well....I've got something I need. I heard of this armor style from around the Plow, something that'll give some good protection and still allow for some flexibility. Also, wouldja be able to make it a bit fancier? I've heard you can make em look like all manner o creatures, maybe a lion?" (Turlagh requests a Masterwork O-yoroi )

"Turlaugh! It's been a while" replies Adris with a smile. "Glad to see you're still alive, and of course I'll do what I can to help you stay that way. This O-yoroi sounds like an interesting challenge... come back in a few days and I'll have it ready for you. And great choice on the lion motif, by the way; that noble creature has long been an inspiration for me as well."

Turlagh smiles "Glad to still be alive, Adris! Yeah, I figured I could go for a new look to go with some changes in my life lately. Lions are quite noble, and I figured I could get an extra dose of courage from the armor, as silly as it sounds. Anyway, I'm excited to see the finished thing! I'll be back in a few days then. Good day, Adris!"
