The title says it all, more or less.
Hi all. I go by Flock generally. I'm just wondering about Dragon's Gate and its accessibility to new players. And I don't mean "new to Dragon's Gate" or even "new to Pathfinder." I mean people who are completely new to tabletop RPG's in every way. The most experience I have was a short 2 hour encounters session of D&D I played a few months ago at the local comic book store. Is this something I should invest my time into, or should I look for something else involving Roll20? I just wanted the advice of the GM's because....well they're the GM's. If anyone has any advice/recommendations for a completely inexperienced(see: no experience) tabletop player, that would be awesome.
Thanks for taking time to read this and for any responses.

Hi there! We've had quite a few players who've had little to none experience with tabletop games and it's worked out fine for some, and not quite been what others have been after. Being completely new is perfectly welcome here, though as the levels climb up if you have a character that's not built solidly (as is the case for many new players) the sessions with combat can get remarkably challenging. On the plus side, our irc community is usually very happy to help people out with recommendations and what does and doesn't work well, and is a nice place to hash out character concepts in the more populated times of the day.
If you're the type of person who would like to throw a character together and play the character for pure fun, rather than mechanical domination, then you'll still fit in quite well - we have a large variety of GMs and some of them happily change up the types of session they run to suit the characters in it, so evenas someone completely new to the system, the support is here for you. Overall I'd say feel free to give it a try and see if it's your kinda thing. If not then no worries at all, but if so then hey, it'll work out great!

Ok great! I'll give it a whirl. Any advice for what class to pick that's pretty easy to understand for newer players?

Well martial characters usually have some pretty stringent feat selections, and casters have a lot of spells to sort through, so it mainly depends on the type of character you'd like to play. Hitting things in close combat, staying ranged, using spells against enemies, or to buff allies and so on.
There's quite a lot of different things you could do, so in a fantasy genre what types of characters do you like to play?

Usually intelligence based characters, like mages and stuff. Whenever I play RPG's on the PC I prefer playing characters who are smart. Was never a fan of the big, strong, punch the dragon's face types. I'm reading over the Pathfinder rules now, and a Sorcerer seems like the best choice for me. I've already downloaded the PDF for the character sheet. I guess all that's left is to get started building my character.
