Hi, my name's Clayton. I'm a 20 year old Computer Science and Mathematics student living in California. I have been playing all kinds of games (video games, card games, board games etc.) since I was very small and have always been interested in tabletops. I have had little experience with them until the few months before I joined DG when 1) I met a few people IRL that have since become a regular play group for Dark Heresy and 2) I convinced my family to learn Pathfinder with me and have GM'd 2 games with them.
As far as my availability goes, that is largely based on my school schedule. Weekends are always fairly open for me and Monday/Wednesday/Friday will also be open, barring homework and other such things. I intend to run games late night PST, since few games (and I think GMs) are being run/are active at those times.
If I had to state a preference for games I've played, I prefer dungeon crawling to 4 hours of social interaction. I have been on both sides of social interaction sessions between DG and Dark Heresy and I do not personally enjoy them as much as traps and confined space combat. The only game I've written for Pathfinder is a relatively simple dungeon crawl with a few traps and variable states of awareness within the dungeon itself.
Strengths:
Thorougness - I am a very thorough person when it comes to what I set my mind to. I enjoy working through a solution to a problem for hours on end to find an answer or even just many wrong answers.
Organization - I work to be organized when I do things, as it tends to make things run more smoothly.
Challenges - Though I lack experience with Pathfinder, I have always enjoyed games that challenge and terrify the player. Not because of spooky skeletons or cheap jumpscares, but from a legitimate feeling of weakness and inadequacy, with success in that scenario being that much sweeter. Incidentally, my favorite video game is Dark Souls.
Willingness to Learn - More than anything else, I want to become a better GM. I am more than welcoming to constructive criticism from players and will actively listen to those who protest a ruling I make in game (within reason). I strive to better myself and learn more every day, and DG and Pathfinder are things I am passionate about.
Weaknesses:
Lack of detailed Player-side Knowledge - I have only played one class in Pathfinder (woo, fighter) and have NO idea what most classes can do in specific at most levels beyond 3rd or 4th. In addition, there are a lot of situations I have never encountered that I'm not aware of that come up much more frequently at higher levels of play. That being said, I can and will do my research on classes before a session to be equipped with the proper knowledge of the PCs.
Little Storytelling Experience - With the session I wrote, the story in it so far is, as I am told by my players, pretty good. It's also a basic 'There's a cave of goblins and they have treasure, go get it for me' fetch quest/dungeon crawler with some decent RP bits. Before then, I have no experience writing stories of any kind for the purposes of fantasy gaming. I also don't read much fantasy, which doesn't help my case in this regard.
Lack of GM Experience - As I stated, the only game I wrote has goblins. It also has a couple bugbears and a legless goblin who thinks he's a wizard. Pretty sure this is the most basic lvl 1 series of encounters you can have. The players had 0 experience with the game, but they felt like the game went rather smoothly. I did intentionally overlook some of the finer points of combat for the sake of simplicity, but the game otherwise went well and they stated as such. Regardless, I still lack much practical and creativite experience in the realm of designing encounters.
Thanks for getting this far, and apologies for short walls of text. Hope you consider me for a GM position.
