After being approached while going about their day by various agents of a shady middleman the party agreed to meet with him and talk about possible work. During the conversation the party became increasingly suspicious of the man as he refused to tell them what they were going to be carrying, who they were taking it from or too, or even to give his name. After a bit of discussion they talked him into upping his pay before deciding to take the job despide their misgivings. Heading out to the other end of the slums to pick up the package the drunken Haro heard a distinct sound of screaming. After a few seconds of discussion he decided it might be more than his beer making him hear things and scouted ahead. Walking to the end of the ally way he saw several men finishing a couple of other men off. As he was not actually trying to hide they saw him right away, but as he was rather drunk and carrying a chicken wing they chose to try and scare him away, as the discussion went on and the rogues realized he was also a target Haro realized his party wasn't coming to back him up Haro kicked off the combat with a loud yell for help.
The party made quick work of the robbers, Rainen freezing two to within an inch of their lives and Bol clubbing a fleeing one to death. Haro was on track to catch the last one on the rooftops, the one they pegged as the leader, until started to shift his form into a hitherto unknown and mythical beast known as the were rat. Unable to overcome his unnatural defenses the rat escaped despite the parties best efforts. Rainen having kept one of the two enemies he disabled the party was able to convince him to fear them more than his bosses revealing the location and plans of the would be were rat run thieves guild. Searching the aftermath of the fight they found that the box indeed was taken, and that perhaps the were rat story was not as far fetched as some of them thought as they found a silvered weapon among the dead.
Realizing that the only way they would get paid would be to track them down and take the box back the party made the captured goon lead them to the sewers the were rats kept their warren in, in fear he would be betrayed and killed once they entered he decided to give them the last usefulbit of information he had and flee on the spot hoping the party would not chase him in a public area. He guessed wrong as Haro chased him down and grappled him while calling out he was a thief. The man reopened his wounds as he struggled to free himself and the party chose to leave him. As they ventured into the warren the party chose to deal with the alarm spell by sprinting through and managed to catch several of the inhabitants in surprise. But the fight slowly turned as they killed all the non were rats but had great difficulty overcoming the damage reduction of the unnatural beasts. Things took a turn for the worst as Rainen the best weapon they had against the monsters took a color spray to the face stunning him for 4 rounds. Through creative use of alchemist fire and kicks to the face the party managed to chase off the remaining enemies and arrived in the treasure room to find the box had been opened, and that somehow the small rectangle had contained a full grown man in need of major medical care.
Once they revived him enough to be able to speak the man identified himself as Vincent, son of a member of the guard who had been kidnapped as a tool to extort his father in assisting them with a smuggling operation. The party deciding that they couldn't in good conscience return him to his torturers instead chose to shelter him in one of their homes until they could contact his father and return him. They also found a rather large amount of drugs and decided to pawn them off to an alchemist they knew to fill out their pay.
