So Ashmock has some spell storing armour, which I intend on loading up with a shock grasp so get some extra damage when I need it. I am under the impression that if you had the feat, you could apply metamagic to the Shocking Grasp to take it up to lvl 3 (Empower Spell ect.), but I am wondering if the same can be done with a metamagic rod.
For Example, if I have a lesser Intensify Rod, can I place an Intensified Shocking Grasp into the Armour? And since rods don't modify the spell level, would it still be considered a lvl 1 spell to store in the item or a lvl 2 spell?
EDIT: Additional question of spell storing. If I hit and confirm a crit, can I then use the immediate to apply the stored spell and benefit from the critical? So normal Shocking Grasp would deal 10d6?

No. Metamagic rods function in such a way that they apply the metamagic as the spell is being cast. Storing a spell is not casting a spell. You could, however, use a metamagic feat to store a metamagic-'ed spell in your armor.
For the crit question, the spell storing armor only triggers when you are hit, not when you hit. Spell storing weapons on the other hand trigger on hit/damage that you deal. Tho, that is a free action that will cast the spell, and unlike spellstrike, doesn't have the part where it says you deliver the spell through the weapon, nor does it say it uses the weapons crit range. It also doesn't need to be a touch spell for the spell storing weapon, just targeted. If it is a touch spell, you'll still have to roll it's seperate touch attack though.
