So I was wondering if Evolutionist would allow a summoner to change the subtype of a eidolon or if it would only effect the base for a given subtype. I was wondering because Lanward's character concept would still work if he is able to switch between the subtypes when he creates a new monster but would not really work if he his confined to only one type of subtype. Actually his character concept would work even better if he could switch since it would really seems like each monster is completely different from the previous one. Anyways was just wondering on how Evolutionists works with the new unchained summoner.
Thank you for your time,

The evolve base form ability would allow you to, I believe.

Oh thank goodness. I was really worried I was going to have to scrap my favorite char. Lanward can continue to make monsters to his hearts content then.

That seems stupid as hell to me. Being able to switch between base forms given by the Subtype you chose makes sense, but actually changing it from an Angel to a Devil doesn't. The eidolon is meant to represent one creature from a specific plane and the evolutionist is fluffed up as reshaping the eidolons body, not its species.

Yea, RAW it seems like the way it works but the fluff is a little off.

I don't even think it is RAW. The eidolon type (Angel, Demon, ect.) is referred to in the rules as "Eidolon Subtype". The archetype calls out changing the eidolons "Base Form" which is the specific name of the Biped, Quadruped and Serpentine forms (and aquatic which seems to have been forgotten in unchained).
So if you had an Angel eidolon the Evolutionist would do nothing, since Angels can only have one base form, but if you had a Daemon or Elemental you could swap between Biped, Quadruped and Serpentine with Evolutionist.
In that sense, Lanward would still be able to change the basic shape of his Eidolon to represent new monsters, but they would all have to be one subtype (Daemon, Demon, Elemental and Psychopomp have access to all 3 base forms.)

I agree with Novasry - seems like it changes the base form, not the subtype of actual Eidolon.
Edit: After checking further, the unchained summonier eidolon rules specifically state that some subtypes are limited in what base forms they can choose - this is consistent with the Evolutionist which allows you to change base forms, not subtypes.
As such Novasry is indeed correct - an Evolutionist wouldn't be able to do much to an angel's form, but could certainly switch between biped, quadruped etc with subtypes that have them as options.

Yeah I didn't have the summoner rules in front of me, forgot they still had base forms and types seperatlely, so Nova is right.

What about playing a elemental as a evolutionist. Could I change the element my eldilon is along with the base form?
