Snivel, Rainen, Balvos and Kite were all in The Golden Plow waiting for work when the barman recommended they tried checking out the temple. When they did go and check it turned out the temple was having to deal with some sudden pressure due to 3 new arrivals convulsing from venom and covered in insect bites. After questioning the clerics, they headed out to the Hearth district to visit the house where the people had been found outside of. Finding a previous flower store and funeral director abandoned and seemingly on sale or for rent caused them to pause before donning their swarm suits. After a not inconsiderable amount of time trying to gently break their way in they settled on removing the doors neatly and explored. This led to the discovery of gold and various trinkets of value to sell later. Going round the back they investigated the small food storage building, kitchen and small storage shed. Snivel, the unlucky soul, went in to the kitchen and fell down a large funnelweb style pitfall, heinously injuring himself. With the aid of the party he was patched up and his cry of shock had attracted both Fin and Sabien.
After explaining about the bites and that they were going to clear the house ofvaluables insects they decided to proceed inside. Rainen was sufficiently unlucky to get stabbed with a spear trap but kept the spidersilk spike itself as it appeared to be solid and well made. Sabien remained outside and looked around the funnelweb trap to see if there was anything interesing. Aside from finding the dessicated corpse of an elven child, a small silver pendant was found. Snivel eventually grabbed this and it jumped to life and nearly bit him. After some issues it was eventually trapped in a jar. Sabien was sufficiently unnerved as when close to the pendant he felt warmth and the closeness of home - a place he loathed and reviled, wishing to forget about it. As such he left the jar in the small storage shed, with a few blocks of wood atop it to hold it closed. Moving deeper in to the building, the party were confronted by a pair of spider swarms that literally fell upon them. Realizing their usual approaches were in fact worthless, most of the party stood around somewhat as the swarms were gradually burned and melted to death. During this, Kite when to the storage shed to get some wood to help burn the swarms, forgetting the animated amulet was in there. Opening the door caused it to bite him before running to Sabien and thus calming down as it was on a drow. Kite collapsed to the ground as the venom coursed through his veins, causing him to convulse and scream in tongues. Unfortunately that tongue was undercommon, screaming praise to Lolth, deity of the drow.
Sabien quickly rushed to help Kite recover and, by the time he was fine and the fight was finished, a cleric with a security detail of guards arrived due to reports of drow screaming. Sabien and friends managed to explain the situation calmly and asked for assistance with the house. Leaving three guards to help, the cleric and two others retreated back to the temple of Pelor after apologizing. The party headed inwards and hacked their way through several layers of webbing. Snivel made his way to the top and went exploring, once again falling down through the floorboards and landing in the funeral store and getting injured again. One door was heavily webbed. The party went to hack through when Sabien heard a stressed glottal voice shout out in undercommon to leave their home and go away. When the door was hacked through an Ettercap remaining in the room as it was assailed. It hastily went to defend itself, sounding more and more terrified and distressed. Sabien eventually realized something was amiss and stopped the fighting, gently questioning the Ettercap as he saw the four young ettercaps clustered on the ceiling that she was desperate to protect.
It was then that he realized it was in fact a she, and she was a mother. Confused and wondering how to handle the situation, he continued to quiz her as to why she was here. She maintained it was her home, pointing to the portraits of a dusky skinned male elf and calling him Sathoth Jhaeldra, her father. When quizzed about this, she maintained that she had been hatched in the house, raised by him as a replacement for his dead daughter yet no less loved. Conflicted, Sabien strugged to work out how to reconcile the situation, knowing that as a drow he himself would usually be reviled and excluded from society - an approach he had been readily prepared to do to the Ettercap. Asking her name, she called herself Alizabeth. When asked about the pendant, she stated it belonged to her father's previous daughter to protect her in the afterlife from drow. When Sabien offered possible escort and transport to his adopted hometown where it was possible she could be accepted as a special case. She was willing to do anything to protect her children. Realizing the worth of the act of protecting one in a similar situation to himself, Sabien conferred with the others and remaining guards, and came to the conclusion that an escort leaving the city under cover of night then a caravan transport would work. Finn went out and about looking for ways to make it profitable, and several merchants were happy to weigh in for a caravan to trade goods between cities.
Sabien then asked his compatriots who had taken part who would be willing to come along. It was going to be a very long journey.
