Through the various means of letters from people who know them, being told by people who know them, or being fetched by people who do, in fact, know them, the entire party gathered to go and destroy some insects which had apparently been adversely affecting small businesses and hunters out southeast of the Eastern Slums. Once everyone had gathered they made appropriate purchases and set off. Snivel wore the swarmsuit immediately, causing a pair of half-orcs to point and laugh in the slums. As they threw insults his way he walked up and, with his axe, hit one so hard with the haft the guy was thrown backwards, hit a beam and knocked unconscious. With the other half-orc howling with laughter and several bystanders clapping, Snivel saw the funny side and went to walk away. Sellion however made a choice comment about 'dirty greenies', causing the mood to rapidly fall. Within moments several half-orcs came up to him with the largest telling him to get the hell out. Sellion laughed at him and turned to walk away, provoking the angry orc to bite Sellion's neck. As the elf went to respond by drawing a weapon, Hagen bodily held him and steered him away as the orc muttered about racists.
Once out of the city and with a complaining Sellion, the group came across lots of flying insects resembling large flies. Pondering this, the group decided they weren't magical, but may a few generations back have eaten something that caused them to grow a bit and that it bred true. Regardless, they charged in and chopped everything up even though the pesky little blighters were a menace and hard to hit. Their swarmsuits protected them from nearly everything, a few hard bumps the worst of the damage.
Looking round, they spend some time tracking before finding an entrance to what was presumably the hive, so they lit a fire at the entrance and fanned the smoke in to effectively smoke everything out. This worked better than expected, as 3 potentially separate encounters came up at once, all a little annoyed. There were more of the flying ants, a couple of the giant ant-like botflies, a much larger ant worker and two strange ant-like things they weren't entirely sure about. However, once one of those 2 unknowns broke Finn's sword and turned his armour to rusty dust it was clear that this 'ant' was in fact a huge problem. Suffice to say it was summarily hacked apart by a critical feat of brutality, causing the party to feel pretty good on the whole.
It was at that point that the other entity, an ant monstrosity with really odd eyes, started really looking at them properly. One by one they were petrified and turned to stone with just Finn left at the end to try and save his party and not become a remarkably decorative lawn ornament. Through daring, initiative and generally stabbing it till it wanted to go away, Fin managed to bring the beat down and only mildly setting himself on fire to do so. Hacking it apart thanks to shouted advice earlier, he used the innards to coat both Hagen and Snivel, reasoning with them that they could find another strange ant thing to rescue Kite and Sellion. With some incredibly loud sneaking they eventually stumbled upon a much smaller sleeping strange ant-thing, so stabbed it in the face hard and used it's guts to bring Kite back to the world of the not-statues.
Deciding going for a third would be pushing their luck, they bodily carried the more important corpses and Sellion back to town, selling those and using the proceeds to restore Sellion's form at one of the local temples. After they decided to collect their pay, as in the norm, and spoke to the collection of merchants who had arranged the job. Pay was going to simply be awarded till Sellion tried pressing the point of them covering costs, which they disagreed about. As such, Sellion and Kite attempted to intimidate the group, stating they would tarnish their reputation and name if they didn't pay up. This obviously didn't sit well with the merchants who pointed out that unforeseen costs are unforeseen and they'd not pay Sellion at all if he was going to be like that about it. Thankfully however he managed to placate them and repaid the party for their collective efforts.
It just goes to show, not everyone wants a statuesque physique.
