Hearing the conversations in the Golden Plow tavern and University library, the various intrepid adventurers broke their daily routine and made their way to a local alchemist's shop in the hearth district, run by a gentleman called Ploatus Hrook. Absent minded, scatter brained and, let's face it, a drug addict, Ploatus vaguely requested the party to retrieve a small crate of importantcocaine alchemical materials he required for his day to day life. An initial 500 gold per person was posed, with Deverdon cunningly convincing the poor bugger that 500 in fact conceptually meant 600, and a contract was drawn up and signed. After reviewing what essentially was a random note for the man's only joy in life, the party headed off to the drop off point to have a look around for the individual who'd stolen the happy dust.
Finding a ramshackle and beaten down building, they investigated and found a small boy who'd taken up living there as it was abandoned and left alone due to the locals thinking it was haunted. Fin, the lovable rascal, made the boy cry before searching the place and finding a route down to the sewers under the floorboards. After some magic was demonstrated on the child and he fainted, Fin slipped the kid 1gp and a 'shush' drawing with an emphasis on not telling people they were there. After some switches of clothing the party entered the sewers and were immediately confronted by the less than pleasant smell of feces. Goes with the territory y'see.
Quinn was able to identify two strains of red moss growing in the humid surroundings on walls and floors - either hallucinogenic or an effective painkiller, so a sack was procured as the party went harvesting throughout their travels. Eventually they came across a series of what appeared to be giant maggots with insect legs stitched on to them, squeaking like rats. They were identified as strange homunculi and eventually, after much swinging at the air, taken apart. Just as the party thought they were safe Lorek was ambushed by the umbral darkness and escaped instant death, proceeding to stay as far away from the shadow as possible till it was eventually dissipated, though Deverdon felt weak after the fight.
Further on the merry band encountered a pair of strange surgical mixes of massive maggots, fleas and yet more insectoid legs, these larger homunculi the size of a fully grown horse. Though harrowing, the party managed to hack the pair apart though at the cost of Rainen nearly dying, a mere sliver (2hp) away from death's door. Taking their time to recover and catch their breath, the group found a corpse and took his potion from him, since the guy didn't seem to be using it. After discovering that it was a shitty potion, literally, Deverdon decided to hold on to it. Still feeling weak, Deverdon went to eat some of the painkilling moss and managed to eat some hallucinogenic moss before Quinn could stop him. He proceeded to drunkenly enjoy himself as everything took on a comforting warm rosy glow.
As the party reached a large atrium they were beset by another two of the large maggotkin, with Lorek's sharp eyes pinpointing the Shadow hiding within the... shadows. battle commenced as Lorek prompty ran away as fast as he could, only to get called back 12 seconds later since the adventurers were actually winning. Deverdon learnt how a punching bag feels as he was slapped down to a measly sliver of strength and beaten unconscious and gored by the large maggots, but the party prevailed. When a second shadow ambushed Finn a well coordinated series of events saw him protected and the shadow slashed apart. Searching the bodies in the room resulted in the small chest being found under a supposedly surprised and somewhat dead man, causing much satisfaction all round and a return to the alchemist Ploatus.
As they were paid Sabien, who disapproved of scamming an elderly gentleman, refused the extra 100 gold. Afterwards everyone was checked by local healers and 4 members were cured of the bubonic plague, a disease that made the locals checking themcrap their pants extra cautious with their treatment. Sabien led the healers back to the boy at the house and, sure enough, he too had bubonic plague. When Sabien went to cover this cost himself the two healers were moved by his act of financial self sacrifice, and thus split the 100 gold cost three ways between them.
Due to the entire party being weakened to some degree, everyone paid a gold per day of palliative care to restore their vim and vigour with the exception of Lorek who was actually pretty alright. Thus ended the day.
