I've been trying to figure out what, exactly, promoting a business does. The main section is found here, but to make it easier, I'll quote the important section.
How exactly does this promotion work? I can read it multiple ways, and the results have been everywhere between grossly overpowered to useless. I guess I'll try to form a series of questions to help set my stance:
1) Is the amount of additional capital generated equal to the skill check, or is it the skill check divided by 10? For example, a player with +15 check could promote to get +20. Does the business therefore generate 2 capital from the promotion, or 20?
2) How does the duration of the effect impact the result? For example, is it +2 or +20 capital over the duration of 1d6 days, or is it +2 or +20 capital every day?
I'm asking because Business Booms is a spell that needs to probably get banned. If this is ruled unfavorably, it's a trap that always causes the player to lose capital for no benefit. If this is ruled favorably, it's an incredibly cheesy spell that allows a character to mass-convert all their gold into magic capital over a period of days instead of months.
The promotion increases activity at the site for 1d6 days. Choose one capital the building generates, then attempt a skill check for using skilled work to earn capital, using Diplomacy, Knowledge (local), or Spellcraft. Add 5 to your check result for every 1 point of Goods, Influence, Labor, or Magic you spent to promote the business, then use the skilled work option to determine how many additional resources the business generates over the course of this increased activity.
