Alastair groaned softly as he pinched the bridge of his nose, "No, Jiles. There is nothing strange or supernatural about your pig."
I knew I'd be starting low, but this is demeaning.
"You sure?" The farmer asked nervously.
"Yes! For the seventh time, yes! I have exhausted every avenue of analysis at my disposal, magical and mundane!" The sorcerer exclaimed through gritted teeth, "What in the Nine Hells has you so convinced that there's something wrong with your pig? It looks normal to me!"
"He's been givin' me the stink eye all week. I think it was 'cause he ended up with a bad batch of feed last Saturday. Now Napoleon's planning revenge on me," Jiles explained, completely serious, "I reckon he's gonna bring the other animals in on it, too."
Alastair exchanged a glance with Bess as he questioned the man's sanity. The nag seemed to hold the same opinion as her master, but she was a bit less vocal about it.
Shaking his head, the sorcerer addressed the farmer again, "I sincerely doubt that pigs are capable of understanding the concept of revenge or have the cognitive abilities necessary to see you as the source of the problem. And I have no idea why you got me. I'm not a pig-whisperer. If you wanted that, you should have gotten a druid." He paused, "And you named a pig Napoleon?"
"Yeah, somethin' wrong with that?"
"No no, nothing wrong. I'm just wondering how the hell you even know that name," Alastair answered.
"Read it in a book."
He can read? Alastair asked in his mind, "Right. Well, since there's nothing wrong with your pig, let's hash out the payment for my time."
The sorcerer walked away from the job a few coppers richer. Those coppers would end up going towards his evening meal, and so would be on the lookout for more work in a few hours.
As he left, Alastair never saw a glint of intelligence appear in the pig's eye nor the slight curling of the edges of its mouth.

Alastair glanced around the modest stable. After a few weeks of traveling with Bess, who didn't exactly smell like a rose. His eyes fell to the pitchfork in his hands. Having been born into a wealthy family, physical labor was never something he had been expected to perform. However, the time after he departed from his home, he had learned the value of it.
"So. Think you'll be alright?" A voice drawled from behind him.
"Hm? Oh, yeah. I can't promise it'll get done quickly, but a job's a job. I'll get it done." The sorcerer turned to look at Neigh. He deliberately kept his speech polite, rather than the borderline condescending tone he had taken with Jiles.
"Good to hear. Just don't go drinking all of the ale before you finish."
Alastair snorted, "Not a problem. Never was much of a drinker."
Time seemed to pass quickly as he cleaned the stalls and put down fresh straw. By the time he went to clean and refill the trough, his arms were burning slightly. He was grateful that the road had kept him in shape. Barely more than a few months ago, he would have been exhausted by the work.
Filling up a bowl, Alastair washed his face and his hands of muck and sweat. He bid Neigh a good evening and returned to his room at the Golden Plough.

Alastair placed the final book on the shelf before stepping back. His personal library was finally complete. Despite the stereotype of sorcerer's avoiding studying like the plague, he was actually an avid reader, particularly on matters that pertained to his natural gifts. Tomes detailing creatures of mystical origins, manuals for magical concoctions, and copies of famous arcane theses lined the room.
Taking down a book on the behavior patterns of Green Dragons, the sorcerer sat down at his desk, slipped on a pair of spectacles, and began to peruse its pages.
(Construction of Alastair's Book Repository (Knowledge: Arcana) completed.)

The bespectacled sorcerer leaned back in his chair, massaging his writing hand as he felt some of his magical reserves leave him. On the desk before him was a freshly written scroll, the ink not even dry yet. Blowing on the vellum lightly, he carefully set the now-magical item off to the side.
(Scribed a scroll of Magic Missile lv 3 for 72 gp (-5% for the Hedge Magician trait))

Two men leaned over a table, upon which rested an unrolled piece of vellum with a set of house plans on them. The first man grunted, "Alright, this looks like it should work. So what do you need this all for again?"
The second, Alastair, simply gave the contractor a look, "I thought that you and your group weren't going to ask questions?"
The man raised his hands, "We're not. I was just curious. Anyways, we can get started on this, but it'll take a few weeks."
"That's fine. I'll be around to supervise, so try to ignore me."
(Alastair pays 300 for a Vault, 300 for a Common Room, and 250 for a Stall. 850 gp total for required capital and labor. Construction will be finished in 16 days (4 days real time).).

Alastair plopped the sacks of gold into the hands of the individual workers as they walked out the door, closing it behind them. With an off-hand thought to potentially have them taken care of, the sorcerer walked around to inspect the additions to his domicile.

Holding up the item like it was some holy artifact, Alastair examined the jeweled circlet from every angle, using his magical senses to try and perceive any imperfections. Narrowing his eyes, he nods in approval before slipping it onto his head. Now tired and very hungry, the sorcerer stumbled off to his kitchen to make a snack. Afterwards, he moved to his bedroom and fell face-first onto his bed.
