Journal:
Phillip Charmile, a rich olive merchant comes into the Golden Plow and is looking for adventurers to deal with a witch who has been attacking his plantation. After some browbeating from the heroes, he admits that he previously had a relationship with the witch, who can control birds and has been attack his trees and workers every dusk for several weeks. He arranges for a carter to bring the heroes to his plantation to the north east of rook and stays in Rook while they deal with his problem.
Once there, the heroes find a mansion with a team of dwarf guards protecting the house and a halfing chef cooking. The heroes split up, with Vorumgar asking the chef, Berrywise, regarding the scorned woman while the others go out into the trees to look for evidance. Vorumgar hears more of the story, finding out the woman is named Molly and was a bard before Charmile invited her to his household with the implied promise of being her patron in the arts. They had a brief romance before Charmile's betrothed returned from a trip, at which time Molly was unceremoniously kicked out of the house.
The heroes out in the field find a dead rabbit and fight a murder of crows that was hiding in the hedgerows. Some investigation of the rabbit shows a single puncture wound in its neck and that it was been drained of blood. The heroes also find three sets of weird "dog-like" prints that seem to fly away and a pair of barefoot women's footprints. The heroes follow the women's tracks to the north but lose them at a hard packed cart path.
Deciding to hold up in the house, the heroes eat a late dinner as the crows start rattling the shuttles and tearing at the olive trees. However, Herace decides to jump outside and Narm orders a dwarven recruit to venture outside as well. Both are attacked by the crows, prompting the other heroes to go outside as well. There they spot a woman in a black cloak singing to the bird and three flying "goat suckers" who are hanging around the edges of the murder of crows. Using Arremer's knowledge of Auran and Vorumgar's compasion for her story, the heroes are able to convince Molly to stop the crows and come inside with them. They go inside but Herace discovers that the blooddrained rabbit that he wished to eat was thrown away, so he and Soran go outside to get another rabbit. However, once they break cover, the goatsuckers swoop toward them with intent to drain their blood. The heroes except for Narm go outside to assist. A short scuffle (and in Tarken's case a grapple later) later, and the heroes have defeated the goatsuckers.
While the rest are fighting, Narm and his dwarven recruit snoop around the master bedroom and he breaks his way into Charmile's safe. Narm throws the loot into a pillowcase and decides to return to Rook.
With the threat defeated, several of the heroes investigate the house further and Herace beats one of the dwarven guards in a fist fight for a wager of 7 gold. Arremer finds a recipe for a secret family salad dressing in a false book in the library. Beds are divided up and the heroes spend the night.
The next morning, the heroes (and Ulrich the dwarf and Molly the bard) return to Rook and the Golden Plow. They frighten Charmile into admitting that they've completed the task that he asked them (to stop the bird attacks "however it is adventurers solve that sort of thing") and begrudgenly pays the promissed 400 gold each. After he leaves, Narm offers to split some extra treasure that he had "located".
