It was time for what would hopefully be the final step in recovering the blind dragons prophecy, and to figure out what was blocking the Tieflings and Aasimars from stepping foot onto the unknown land. Lorek and Miere, two of Rooks more prominent adventurers, sought out the portal on their own to learn more about it, saving Commander Bergstein from the trouble. Missives went out to more of Rooks power players, including one to Rainen. More missives went out to those adventurers who had helped with issue previously. No missive was needed for Baldur. There was little chance he'd miss this, and in fact would be the parties guide this time around. The appointed day came and five brave souls arrived.
In through the portal and off through the jungle, to the Son of Dragons lair they went. Eight hours later they arrived. A moments rest, a bit of preparation, and onward to battle the beast.
While yes, the Son of Dragons did somewhat resemble a wingless dragon, it was obvious to most that this beast was merely a vary large version of some of the dinosaurs they'd already seen. Perhaps merely is a poor choice of words in this case. The beast came between the party and a pillars base and roared a challenge. In typical fashion, the adventurers met the roar with action. Capitalist, the foe wrecker, slayer of GMs hopes and dreams, pounced, straight away clawing away a huge chunk of the beasts vitality. The battle was fast and fierce. Biting, clawing, stabbing, spellslinging...
And then the dice gods proved to all that they have a sense of humor...
Hayden moved up to the son of dragons and in so doing opened himself up to attack. The gargantuan beast snapped down its mighty jaws, severing Hayden in half. Now, before you call me an asshole for saying that's funny, this is not what makes me laugh. What makes me laugh is that after the battle, when salve was spread on the bodies two halves... Hayden was reincarnated as a Halfing...
So yes, as that implies, the party was victorious. The manner of the victory was quite disconcerting. The son of dragons bit down, hard, on something that wasn't there. He seemed to swallow something... A few seconds later, his stomach burst open in a spray of gore and gizzard juice. An instant later it collapsed. Some moments later, a gore covered Capitalist appeared.
In the battles aftermath, those who were attuned to magic could sense a mighty presence. Opening their senses yielded little for this magic was so strong as to flood the area. A cave was found and entered. It was dark, and empty, but for an immense sphere of swirling and pulsating primordial energies. There were many attempts to interact with it, ranging from risky to downright foolhardy. Those who were perhaps best suited to examining the object stood back, shaking their heads and muttering about amatuers. Yet with half-Hayden again knocked unconscious, this time but rock and wave, and with Baldur and Rainen dry humping the sphere, Naya penetrated the surface.
While others tried various things Naya experienced billions of years in time lapse. Galaxies collided, stars were born and died, planets were formed, life was born and died out. Once she adjusted she realized she could interact with thing. It was open to her. She shut it down.
Outside the sphere four huge elementals formed and attacked. One was dropped, the others were hurt, Baldur was dropped. Naya was thrown from the sphere, two more elementals formed, one huge and one medium. Eventually the adventurers were victorious.
Not yet done Naya again approached the sphere, this time turning it on. She drove its influence as wide as it would go, encompassing the world.
She felt that with the artifact reset, the newer 'native' races would be unhindered but that anything planar would be stopped from initiating entry to the world. Still, something could be called, but that is a worry for another day.
The party returned, victorious. Nicoroth confirmed their success both in confirming that the prophecy was complete and it confirming that he could now go through the portal. And thus Rooks alliance with Cloud City was born.
