Player Loot:
Sabien Raith: 1800gp
Walter O'Hannigan: 1420gp
Gruengi Helhein: 1800gp
Invited and tasked by a Lady Margoletta to transport assistance in the form of metal crates full of supplies and reinforcements to a old friend who had been viciously attacked by adventurers several months ago, the intrepid trio set off with a sturdy cart and some solidly built working horses. Walter, ever safety minded, brought a quartet of mercenaries to guard the cart itself in the case of combat, and the trip started off smoothly. As they passed the mass grave sites of the soldiers of Rook and goblin pyres however, Walter noticed a strange presence remaining behind him. By sneakily hiding from it he swiftly saw it was a form of ghost, styled after a Rook soldier, evidently trying to get back to the world of the living as it attempted to possess the group. With the aid of Gruingi's runes, Walter cleaved the apparition apart.
Shaken slightly, but not stirred, the group continued on and rested for the night, waking the next morning to find that not only was it colder, but it was snowing again. This caused Walter some concern, as he'd faced someone who used the cold and undead before, so the group continued to forge ahead with care. Eventually they came across a mound of snow that looked suspiciously like a person huddled underneath a thin layer, so Walter and the others slowly made their way closer. Once in reach however it attacked, sinking it's teeth in to Walter and, to his mild concern, beginning to eat his hopes and dreams. As battle was joined it was intelligent enough to at least attempt to stick with the weakest target, draining yet more of Walter's aspirations from him till he was barely more than a husk, a shell of the former personalities he was. Even so, a stretegic strike brought the creature down and, though not very talkative anymore, Walter seemed functional.
Eventually after more travel the group found the cave noted on the map, rimed with ice, and Walter fearlessly went inside to, sure enough, see the hag who had caused the problems before at the logging camp. Amused to see him so affected by one of her thralls, she was quite happy to stand back and accept the supplies from her friend after Walter's eloquent several word speech. Gruengi, concerned at seeing a large number of bones and a lot of onyx in the crates, asked what it was all for, earning him a disparaging glance and the explanation that it'd be for guards, clearly. Regardless, the group finished delivering, Sabien clearly considering the implications of such a delivery, and the trio headed back to Rook, remaining unmolested by the remaining undead now watching over them, due to their assistance.
Once back at Rook, and once a nearby temple had seen to Walter and restored him to his former glory, albeit without any hopes and dreams anymore, Sabien and friends visited the Commander to inform him about their concerns with the possibility of massed undead to the north during a potentially wartime situation, and divulged the area of the mass grave so the bodies could be recovered, earning yet more of Bergstein's gratitude. It seemed like a job well done and a job informed of, but as to the implications of what would happen, no one commented.
Regardless, the unseasonal storms and cold weather to the north remains unabated...
