Player Loot:
Soren(ajman): 350gp (-100 for cure disease)
Naya(diskelemental): 450gp
Atis (Toth): 450gp
Alicia(alkaiser): 450gp
Hayden (cactapus): 450gp
Yanessa(kite): 455gp
Events:
Yanessa was given a pack of letters from a shady woman in the docks to deliver asap to "a man named Big Duade in the golden Plow". When she reached there, Duade saw that the letters seemed to be addressed to all the adventurers that have been involved so far in skirmishes against the thieves. The letters seemed like a desperate try to atone, written by a woman named Anne, and claiming that the only chance the heroes would have, would be in a wharm in two nights from then.
After a bit of investigation, the party learned where that wharf was, as well as some things about the owner of an establishment there, and about their mysterious employer.
Surely enough, in the next night, an elderly fisherman was surprised by the group as they demanded explanations. While the party was talking with the dumbfounded, tricked, man, 6 cloaked figures attacked them, the real passengers of the boat, but where dispatched with haste by the group.
The party sailed away in the dark of night to reach an almost abandoned cove. Smart use of trickery and swordplay eliminated the skeleton crew that remained there. After the group found out that the cove housed quite a large amount of thugs, they moved with haste inside the caverns, only to surprise a poor harmless (?) Ankheg, which troubled the quite a bit.
The adventurers, quite injured and out of resources by this point, weathered on, to find a much nicer room, with all the normal stuff inside, like desks, carpets, maps, human sacrifices (their employer according to Yanessa)... the usual!
As they figured out that the ritual had summoned a devil, they decided to procceed with more caution, so they split up!
The last of their breath was nearly taken away from an emerging pack of rodents, but this was dealt with also, only for an Accuser devil to pop out of invisibility. When everything seemed lost, the devil, instead of attacking or summoning a few more swarms, decided to simply leave them be for the time being. Something that alerted the whole group, since the very existance of those devils is to spy, record, and report their finding, and realizing they have been monitored for quite a bit now, by an invisible, teleporting, adversary.
The last room though contained the pure horror:
A bunch of cells, with mutilated people were inside there. The image was too horrific for some of the people there, with most of the prisoners unable to even function anymore. Amidst them, a little girl, whipped, bloodied, tortured and... worse. Some of the party recognised the missing daughter of the noble Grisla in the tattered girl.
With nowhere to run until the next night when the fisherman would come to collect them, the depleted party dreaded to rest with the Accuser still at large. But a few returning thugs gave them an easy way back to Rook.
Surpisingly, the players decided to bring back alongside with them the prisoners and not the retrieved cargo! When back into Rook, they realised that the whole cove was empty when they struck because the thieves were busy running rampart into the city.
Their plan as to why they toyed and annoyed the guards apparent in the aftermath of their activities. They had struck at certain guardhouses, once more, but this time they run away, with half of the port guard in their tail. And as guards started leaving their posts to hunt them down, out of sheer hatred towards them, the rest of the gang, unnoticed and easily, swiped clean quite a few huge warehouses. The citizens and merchants of Rook nearly took arms against the Guard. Their savings and fortune lost, because the guards, instead of actually guarding, were reduced to play cat and mouse, and chasing after rogues with no chance of catching them. Evidently, Commander's orders to not follow and not chase thieves, falling into deaf ears in front of the sheer hatred the guard now held for the murdering thieves.
Despite the great loss of credibility for the guard, the loss of face, and the riots of the merchants. Commander nearly kissed the adventuring party when he saw the little girl amidst the prisoners. Finally revealing that the little girl was Grisla's and Lord Hestius' child, a very dear companion and friend of his, who has fallen in action a few years back. With Grisla dead, and his friend dead, the commander promised to have little Elysse given to be raised, and hopefully healed in time, by trustworthy nobles.
There was a bit of rejoicing to be had. But the gruesome nature of the tortured victims, the clear defeat of the guards from the rogues in the absense of the heroes, the general feeling that civilians had that "those days only mercenaries seem to be doing their job", spoiled the modd for a couple of the party.
