Deverix Lorewind
Appearance
A surprisingly young and tidy looking man, Deverix likes to maintain a clean, civilized look, appropriate for a wandering scholar. Deverix's dark hair and dark eyes are framed by a rather bony face, all of which is usually wrapped up under a heavy traveling cloak. Despite the small bladed weapon strapped at his side, Deverix's short stature and thin frame makes him look laughably vulnerable. However, the large, grey, rumbling golem that follows behind Deverix is usually more than enough to discourage any would be thieves. With a single glowing blue gem of an eye and four viciously sharp limbs, the golem Volouk is Deverix's first and greatest creation - a bodyguard, sentinel, companion, and friend.
Backstory
As the son of the village stonemason, Deverix had always had an affinity for the earth. His experiments with stone started at an early age, and stayed with him as he left his hometown to pursue the lofty heights of academia. The field of Golemancy immediately grabbed his attention, and with the newly discovered spark of magic he had managed to acquire for himself, Deverix started on the long road to creating a fully sentient golem from nothing more than dirt.
Alas, the path was long and hard. After a year with little to no progress, Deverix had started to lose hope. His early creations were simple puppets, no more than mere familiars. While they were effective in combat, Deverix was more interested in finding and creating the soul, the heart of a living being. Something that would allow the golem to be more than just a puppet.
However, Deverix's patrons were more interested in the practical aspects of Golemancy. With the possibility of war brewing on the horizon, Deverix's patrons demanded more tangible results. They wanted golems capable of warfare and combat, not ones capable of philosophy.
Hundreds of sleepless nights later, Volouk was created. Supposed to be the first of hundreds, Volouk was Deverix's masterpiece and greatest golem that he had ever made. Feeling that he was closer to his goal than he had ever been in his life, Deverix decided to escape with Volouk rather than turn it in to his patron.
With the prototype golem in tow, Deverix headed towards Rook in search for both the knowledge and the ability to finally finish Volouk, and to finally create a self functioning golem.
