Character Name: Célestin Lainé, goes by Laine
Character & Description:
Laine appears more like scholar than a traditional robed, bearded wizard. Young and clean-shaven, he carries a few carefully-stored pocketfuls of various papers and inks when searching around town for new sources of information.
Background Information:
Laine is a Rook native. A child of merchant parents, he early on showed a predilection for the written word. At an early age, he learned to read from the many varied scraps of literature found in a busy shop- a receipt here, a contract there, the various foreign labels of exotic goods. This appetite for the written word only continued to grow when he was apprenticed to a print and copy shop in the Knowledge district. Displaying the Human race's talent for quick learning, he started to pick up a variety of the arcane languages used by the scholars of the area - Draconic, Celestial, Auran - as well as an interest in the arcane arts themselves. He managed to ingratiate himself with some of the local wizards- not normally the most outgoing bunch- by way of being both an efficient scribe and a cunning linguist. Eventually, the printer's apprentice became a wizard's apprentice.
Now, Laine has moved on from being an apprentice and is starting the adventuring life of a journeyman wizard. He's one of the most social wizards you'll probably meet, speaking and influencing not due to any great force of personality, but from a multilingual vocabulary and the near 20 years of living and working steeped in the written sales pitches, speeches, pamphlets and notices of a merchant city.
Laine, like many students of the arcane, is a seeker of knowledge. He believes the best way to learn is through cooperation, and wants to do what he can to improve collaboration and sharing of knowledge between scholars of the arcane and other arts.
