Trouble was brewing up north, or at least to the north east. It seemed some rather unseasonal weather was troubling some foresters and thus the company they worked for sought out adventurers for hire, to go and find the cause of the disturbance and put an end to it. A slatwart group donned their cold weather gear, sorted out their endure elements casts and extracts and headed towards the issue on an elk-pulled sled designed to cart timber around. After a mere day and a half the group encountered a group of shambling foresters, who appeared to be remarkably dead and covered in rime. It didn't take long to bring them all down as the party noted that the poor men had seemed aware of their surroundings and what was happening to them, although not in control of themselves. Knowing something was clearly amiss and an individual was likely behind it all, the group forged on.
A scant few hours later and a strange snowdrift caught the eye of several, though Ben repeatedly insisted it was just a snowdrift till he walked up and smashed it with a morningstar, critically. The glacier toad underneath, supposedly preparing to ambush them, was utterly surprised and promptly grabbed Ben before being utterly wrecked. Solomon, ever on the lookout for specimens for study, advocated carting the thing around and everyone else agreed due to the abundance of space on the sled. Eventually the group came to a small settlement, though by now the unnatural snow had become a blizzard, a phenomenon they all utterly endured without really noticing. The blizzard made it hard to see, however, and from the swirling eddies and flurries and snow bounded a pair of large white wolves, their cold breath scourging the party with rime and frost. Even though they could barely see, everyone clubbed and/or mauled the wolves to death, something which pleased Solomon greatly as it meant there were more bodies to study.
A cackle could be heard through the strong wind and, forging ahead, Aluin found that the woman that confronted him was really good at stabbing him close to his heart. Ben, also rushing ahead, was surprised to note that the elderly woman he found, armed with a weapon of black ice, could quite happily see him whilst invisible and he proceeded to get stabbed a lot too. As everyone slowly ganged up on her she clearly decided tactical withdrawal was the better option and darted away, invisible to all until Walter chugged a concoction which rendered her visible to at least his eyes. As he directed people around, she turned and ran, diving off the nearby cliff. It wasn't long after that the snow stopped entirely, leaving the group to explore the little encampment and various tents. Walter and Aluin went to check over the cliff, seeing only pristine snow where she should have landed, so Walter dropped and rock and saw through the illusion which revealed the woman crumpled up in the snow from the long fall.
Climbing down, he heard her start to cackle and, knowing her to be a witch, went to slice off her head. As he did so however the illusion shimmered away, once again revealing a blank expanse of snow. It seemed like she had escaped. Yuzuki, not to be outdone in terms of contributing to the party, set all the tents on fire as they had dead foresters in then, though Aluin rescued a few of the corpses to bring back to Rook for proper funeral rites. Once back at Rook, and after explaining to the employer what had happened, he was understandably upset that the logging encampment had been set on fire. Statements and arguments flew until he agreed to pay everyone, but would refuse to hire several of them again. This suited everyone fine and Aluin, thinking of the Plow, took one of the wolf corpses to display whilst Solomon happily paid his due to acquire the other two.
