In a rather predictable fashion, today’s adventure began at the Golden Plow with the merchants Marquis and Lafayette searching for a group of daring adventurers. Once the group of Ben, Jhuriel, Sabien, Solomon and Yuzuki were gathered in the adventurer’s room of the Plow, the merchants informed them of a portal to a demonic plane known as a hellmouth. To destroy this hellmouth, the demons maintaining it had to be slain which most agreeable to the adventurers of a holy persuasion.
After a considerable amount of deliberation, all those present agreed to speak with the ant queen to learn the finer details. A multiple hour horse ride later, and the group found themselves looking upon a colossal beige colored mound surrounded by wooden palisades. Upon arriving at the gates, the group spoke with a warrior ant named Fred and it was revealed to the entire colony that Sabien was one of the heros that destroyed the evil queen and her brood. Regarded as a hero by the second generation, Sabien was welcome with open arms… or legs, anyway.
Once speaking with the queen, Queen Tel’ife, the group learned that she wanted a special mineral called magicite. After Jhuriel voiced some very relevant concerns, Walter spoke up being roused from his intense concentration and informed the party of the details of magicite. This mineral, when combined with the geoluminescent crystals found in the ant caves and left in sunlight for a day, was able to temporarily emulate diamond dust for use in spell components. Reservations settled and terms agreed with, the party descended into the confines of the Hellmouth to exterminate the demons that populated it.
Once descended, the party was immediately besieged by a collection of imps and a devil. The imps were quickly dispatched, but the devil was far more troublesome to deal with, and nearly caused Walter to fall to his death had the attempt not been strong enough to hit him back across the gap to where he had just jumped from. Their duel ended with the devil taking his own life in order to hopefully lay claim to Walter’s life. This attempt failed miserably.
The devil dealt with, the party then went on to deal with a demonic sentinel that protected a passage even deeper into the plane. Despite its continued onslaught of explosions causing strife for the party, it was quickly disabled thanks to Jhuriel and Sabien’s ability to create large amounts of water which put out the fires that kept the sentinel activated.
Continuing on in their mission, the party descended the now open passageway and engaged in mortal combat with the demons within. The first demon went down rather easily thanks to Ben’s murderous tendencies. The second demon put up much more of a fight, seeing as it was much harder to damage, and it was able to cast the dimly lit room into full darkness.
After an extended period of Sabien and Jhuriel saving everyone’s lives, this second demon was also taken down due to Sabien rendering it blinded, and Ben vivisecting it. The hard part of their job completed, the group was able to harvest magicite from the cave they were in, and promptly brought it to Tel’ife where they were promptly paid and given the offer to spend the night in celebration with the ants.
