Whilst on his travels, Sabien saw the old small funeral store, where Alizabeth had resided. It seemed like a family of half-elves were moving in and the main owner seemed quite happy to chat as Sabien had overheard conversation about some weird letters found in a secret room. It turned out the letters detailed correspondence between Alizabeth's father, Sathoth, and a work colleague going by the moniker of Kaliven. It detailed experiments to raise easily moulded creatures, such as ettercaps, to be pliant and malleable personalities, acting in a manner similar to a sleeper agent, blending in to society and what not. Sabien, considering himself to have been a fool to accept that Alizabeth's father Sathoth had been a kind and caring man, bumped in to Solomon and briefly explained, further receiving a small trapped chest that had belonged to Sathoth. and went to the Plow to meet up with others to make a trip with him. He explained his previous form as a drow, and the events surrounding Alizabeth and her outlook on life as she had considered herself to be an elf, through and through. Aluin, reasoning that if there was danger to Rook they could get paid, suggested going to the Guards to see if they could elicit payment for services rendered, and so off the group went to see if the endeavor would grant any coin.
The guards seemed fairly nonplussed at a letter written in undercommon, though the sergeant who could read it mentioned he failed to see how it could be a risk to Rook, but they would gladly pay if any evidence was forthcoming after the fact that they had indeed been a danger to Rook. As such everyone went off to rent or buy horses, at which point Walter saw them and inquired as to whether there would be a job going on. Deciding to come on board, he too purchased a horse and the group set off on a generally calm journey lasting approximately three days and a quarter. Looking for landmarks that were likely to be underground, considering the address referred to somewhat drow standards of directions, it took the group some time to eventually find the entrance down. As Sabien went to open it the needle-trapped ring pull on the door delivered it's incredibly inconvenient dosage and Sabien collapsed to the floor as his strength left him. Deciding that this wasn't a good development, but with both Walter and Sabien able to restore what was lost, they all decided to wait around a third of a day to rest up and recuperate. The second time Walter opened the door without issue and the party descended in to the depths.
Once at the bottom, they found themselves in a series of caverns that showed signs of previous habitation. Eventually a rock marked the area as likely to be the correct one, and carefully they proceeded. Aluin, ever lucky, was shot by a single crossbow bolt as two others skimmed by harmlessly, and managed to back flip away from pit falls several times in quick succession. Eventually they made their way to a heavily illusioned stairway downwards, realizing that the abundance of traps were all in fact remarkably safe and merely quite misleading. At the bottom they found a cavern with a pair of tombstones that corresponded with 2 of the 3 ettercaps they had expected to find, and were politely confronted by an elderly man swathed in hood and coverings. As it turned out 'sleeper agent' generally referred to the ability to blend in with a populace and live a normal life, unpersecuted. This was a point he felt Sabien, as a bugbear, would understand and a quiet and calm discourse followed. It seemed clear that there was no real danger - the pits had been shallower than they looked, the poisons left people alive and able to recover, and the crossbow bolts were unlikely to fully kill anyone who'd bothered to make their way down to the cavern. After explaining that the third son, or rather third ettercap, had left to go traveling, the man explained that he'd used ettercaps to raise as they were of a good level of intelligence to mould in to a person without them necessarily understanding that they were, in fact, an ettercap. They were also fairly cheap to procure as eggs, all things considering.
Sabien, somewhat thrown for a loop, elected to return to Rook since there was no threat present. The man, Kaliven, asked to come along with them as they had made Rook sound like an accepting place and in truth with his children gone he was alone and missed the company. Offered a place to stay by Solomon, Kaliven was quite pleased with how everything had turned out. Once everyone got back to Rook the man led them to the small store and was surprised that it had already been bought. Regardless, he inquired about a small chest and was informed Sabien had it, so everyone went to Haven and it was unlocked with the provided key. Inside were small paintings of Kaliven with his two families, and of Sathoth with Alizabeth, all of whom looked happy. At least aside from Kaliven's original wife, who looked somewhat cold. When it was remarked that they hadn't been paid anything for a fairly long trip, the man remarked that the chest itself could be sold for a fair amount thanks to the excellent lock, so that was fairly quickly pawned off and the dividends shared around.
It seemed Solomon had a new room mate, and one who was only too happy to take up a job teaching, possibly adopt a new family and, most important, who would be happy to help raise any ettercaps...
