In the Plow, Yuzuki Ben and Solomon were contacted by a somewhat shady individual who wished for competent people to escort some goods that had been paid for due to the relative dangers brigands, bandits and potential looming war, if the whispers were to be believed. Sourcing 3 more skilled individuals, the group went and met the guy where the goods were, hearing that they'd also need to bring a message back for payment. Everyone agreed to this, and set off with the pretty hefty cart, deciding to set off early to accomplish the job half a day sooner. The first half day passed largely without incident, though soft sounds were heard at night that Walter was unable to fully identify. The next morning saw the group spy a pair of orcs on large wolf-like mounts, and a stale mate ensued for as long as it took Ben to incite them to anger. As people rushed in, one of the furry saddlebags stood to reveal it was a hiding goblin, and a scintillating spray of colour lashed out and utterly floored both Walter and Ryku. A pair of small goblins jumped from their hiding spots atop the second mount's back, poising themselves ready to slice the throats of the helpless adventurers. Sabien, leaping to their defence, brought both the goblins down with bursts of binding and searing light. However since one of the riders was effectively left alone briefly, a spear lashed down and skewered Ryku entirely through the torso, killing her outright and making sure she was down. It wasn't long however before the party had the upper hand, causing the last remaining orc and both mounts to flee south to preserve their own hides.
Discussion and argument broke out concerning whether Ryku should be brought back to Rook in half a day to ensure she would be 'fresh' enough to be fine, with a large chunk of the group advocating getting the job done and her being perfectly fine when returning to Rook. With the sounds of pursuit getting closer, the group elected to continue with the job, though Sabien was grudging in his acceptance, continuing to point out that half a day's delay to ensure the safety of a comrade was more than a reasonable trade. As the group settled after a full day of traveling and leaving the scouting party behind, an opportune orc took a pot shot at Sabien and narrowly missed. It was soon clear there were 5 of the orcs with bows, who continued to shoot till one of them was utterly blended by Ben and the rest fled for safety. Deciding not to pursue, everyone decided to camp up for the night, aside from Ryku was was of course still dead.
During the night Sabien and Walter smelled faint traces of sulfur on the wind, with Walter actively waking people up to warn them. In the morning traveling further east for half a say revealed a small encampment where the smell of sulfur was... hellishly strong. The spied a trio of brutish looking hellhounds, which seemed incredibly well trained and refrained from attacking, instead seeking to act as a barrier and inform their master. This giant of an orc who stepped from his tent seemed in good humour, though obviously was a half-fiend of some sort though he had no wings. He happily conversed with the group, pleased that they had brought his cargo. Discussion revealed that the crates were filled with large amounts of impressively large alchemical bombs, suited for siege warfare or simply mining large areas with incredibly destructive firepower. This gave Walter pause, as the overwhelming evil orc seemed to be excited and keen to put them to use against the Imperials. A slight provocation later and a summoned eidolon had smashed him to unconsciousness, death staved off by a combination of luck and selective buffing. Regardless everyone was paid their half and the message was handed over with no apology at all coming from the orc even though his mean had harassed them all and killed Ryku.
When back near Rook, Sabien decided that the missive was worth reading and thus broke it open, only to be branded in infernal as 'untrustworthy' across his forehead and being confronted with a language he couldn't read. Solomon decribed the contents of the letter as troop movements for the Imperials, key important targets and some listed weaknesses of said targets, though Walter doubted him sufficiently to spend a chunk of time painstakingly going over the letter to decipher it. Ben took exception to this as it seemed to him to be wasting time and against the intent of the job itself, leading to threats and promises from both sides. Eventually however the group returned to Rook and collected the rest of their pay after some argument as to what had happened. It seemed the party was beginning to split apart. With payment secured for everyone aside from Walter, who elected to keep his copy of the letter instead, Sabien ran ahead to inform Commander Bergstein of the happenings and dealing, also breaking the news of Ryku's demise and asking for financial aid to bring her back. As the others caught up, all aside from Ben who simply left upon being paid, the commander was filled in more and more, eventually asking to be led to the informant and agreeing to cover half the costs to bring Ryku back, though he promised to have words to her about her pay.
When they returned it seemed the informant was happy to talk to the commander, albeit privately, and the group were politely, but firmly, sent back on their way. Upon this happening they visited the temple address given to them by the commander, explaining the situation and helping to contribute gold. It wasn't too long before Ryku was back on her feet, though somewhat diminished by the experience. After discussing what had happened and the possible ramifications of inter-party alliances and conflict, the group split up and went to their various homes to dwell on all that had happened.
