Player Loot:
Primrose: 1500gp, Wand of Shield
Lorek Ra'dari: 1500gp, Wand of Protection From Evil
Deverdon: 2250gp
Rainen: 1500gp, Wand of Infernal Healing
Having worked for The Emporium before, Primrose was contacted via orphanmail with a job from Clem and Tine. As it turns out it was a job of a discreet nature, and Primrose was trusted to acquire several others of equal competence. Looking for others, Primrose bumped in to Lorek then Deverdon in fairly quick succession, before picking up Rainen at his usual haunt of the Plow. Going to The Emporium saw Clem give them a reasonably lengthy brief about the importance of Rook, how the UME wanted to have beneficial trade agreements with Rook, and that rumours of the upcoming rekindling of the war between the orc tribes and the Imperials meant that war profiteering was in fact a very viable option between the UME and Rook. As such, Clem wanted the group to help escort a delegate and ambassador from the UME outside Rook to within Rook to meet clandestinely with Fellius Garhn, a member of the Low Council and a respected member in the upper ranks of the Rook military. The order of the day was trade agreements, bribes and information bartering. Naturally then they were also tasked with getting the delegate out of Rook unharmed, and the promised pay was adequate enough to make them quite keen.
Leaving and preparing, everyone fetched waterproof clothing thanks to the rain and thunder, fully preparing in case the winter weather caused sleet. On horseback and with new found supplies they headed out, making good time. Not far from the rendezvous point Lorek's little scorpion informed him that an individual was lurking in the shadows - an orc, once the light was shined on him. He was perfectly friendly and polite, so they left him be even with his close proximity to Rook. Eventually they reached the area noted to meet their charge and Rainen felt a strange tingle as he crossed a boundary, causing everyone to keep clear. It wasn't long however till the man they had been waiting for showed up and joined them, though his distaste for the blue mongrel Rainen was made quite clear. On the way back they were naturally accosted when Lorek spotted the road had been dug over, though the obstacle proved no match for Lorek's illusion as even though their charge, called Farhaven, was shot he was made of sturdy stuff and simply removed the bolts, healing himself, as Lorek carefully navigated the cart through some masking illusions.
Deverdon, ever the brave soul, dismounted and managed to kill one of those accosting the party, causing the rest to elect to flee as the cost would have been too great for any personal benefit. Catching up to everyone else, they escorted the masked man, now in disguise provided by Lorek, in to Rook without any trouble and used his compass to locate the man he sought. This led them to a small dingy looking tavern in the Arms district, and the meeting began in earnest. Lorek and Primrose could actually understand the discussion as it was seemingly in orcish, an odd choice for a UME merchant and Rook military officer conversing... After over an hour a happy agreement was reached whereupon low cost weapons and armour would be provided to Rook in exchange for an abundance of information concerning goings on in the Low Council, and potential snipped from the High Council, concerning nearly anything. As a gift of thanks, a shattered sword belonging to an Imperial General from the last war was presented as a gift, and the party remained wary as they'd been informed it was a potentially cursed item.
Whilst escorting the man out, the curse made itself known - a revenant, a ghost formed of malice and hatred, attacked the man they'd sworn to protect. Rainen, eager to demonstrate his magical might, slammed it with some missiles made of force, angering it as it was the first it had been hurt in a significant time. It's touch send spiritual chills down Rainen's soul, the ethereal claws hurting far more than they had any right to. Deverdon, unsheathing his magical rapier, eventually poked the ghost enough to shift it's focus, but not before it had briefly possessed Rainen and ineffectually attacked before being forced out again by Lorek and a timely use of a scroll of protection from evil. Twice the ghost was fought off, and it elected not to reappear for a third time. Farhaven was quite thankful for their assistance, especially with transferring the ghost's focus on to Deverdon. regardless, the party caught their breath and went back to Clem who happily paid them for a job well done.
It seemed like aside from a massive information leak, Rook was going to do alright should a war decide to break out...
