Kel Ju'holm: 500gp
Hearing tall tales of glowing green mist emanating from a cave to the north of Rook, the intrepid adventurers breifly chatted with the bitter people in the Plow who were currently being disbelieved by all the drunks. Deciding to check with the lumber company employing the trio of storytellers, the man said if proof was brought back that it was dangerous then payment would follow. As such after buying supplies and what not the group headed out north and marched for a happy 6 hours till Gruengi spotted the cave entrance. Carefully going down resulted in three zombies. But these weren't just any old zombies, no! They were the might crit zombies, max damage slams throwing the party around perilously close to death with their mighty little undead fists. Solomon, in a trend that would last an entire adventure, did no damage then spent the fight unconscious. Once the zombies were eventually killed (again), a vast amount of resources were used healing everyone up close to full. Retreating out of the cave, buffs were happily applied to make Suzume's weapon heavier and thus more dangerous, before they all headed in again.
This time there were the trio of super crit zombies, but a skeleton archer who also could roll like the best of them. Once again the party were smacked around, Solomon providing better service than many staff of the Golden Plow and instantly going down on the party. Once again victory was hard won and, at the decision of Kel, Suzume and Gruengi, it was deemed there was enough evidence to at least go back to Rook and rest up for a bit. As they emerged and took a breaker to see how everyone was holding up, a pair of wolves came across them, obviously hungry and diseased. Suzume was unlucky enough to be bitten, and Solomon, recently brought bqack to the world of the conscious, stepped in to slam one of them. Unfortunately he missed, got bitten and fell to the ground, going down on the party again. Nice. The wolves however weren't the most durable of critters and were hacked down in short order. Lacking a large amount of healing now, the party went to go back to Rook with Suzume carrying Solomon's unconscious form over her back.
As they went to move away, a rather disgruntled cleric, the hermit living in the cave itself, came out to give them a good seeing off. This resulted in Kel charging Gruengi, Gruengi swinging back a bit, then everyone deciding to get the hell away from there. Returning to the lumber company, Kel explained the situation and everyone rested up for the next day, whereupon they traveled back to the cave for a final reckoning. This time the old hermit was slightly more prepared and waves of negative energy crashed in to the party. A clerver animated rope entangled him, but a particularly strong channel saw Solomon (naturally), Suzume and kel all drop to the floor deathly close to... death. Like champions however Suzume tenaciously stopped dying right on the edge of life, crits finally happening for the adventurers rather than the gribblies they were fighting. Solomon similarly remained alive as Gruingi stepped forwards on his own. Slamming his weapon in to the entangled hermit caused him to panic and he retreated to drink a potion. A quick step by Gruengi and a ruinous hit caused the man's head to practically explode, instantly ending his menace quite unequivocally. With purchased potions and scrolls, everyone was brought round once again and Solomon took the dead man's holy symbol, since holding it felt really evil and that suited him just fine.
Returning to Rook and the lumber company saw the group get happily paid, giving them a respite from the dangers of adventuring and a promise of many days of good meals. At least till they felt like adventuring again at least.
