Taicho, reuniting with Talon and several others who weren't as familiar with the Grippli situation, filled in his peers. He'd received word that the tribe had a large, though rewarded, favour to ask. Hearing the situation of the Guardians and how they penned in the Grippli from leaving, the rest quickly agreed. After the usual procurement of protective gear, the quintet set off towards the swamp and made their way to the Grippli village. Garibb the chieftain was there to greet them, glad to see some new faces mixed in with the familiar. He explained that the group's previous efforts had left a narrow walkway through which the Grippli could access the outside world, but overall it remained remarkably risky as none of the tribe had been able to reliably map the Guardians' movements. As such, he asked them if they'd be willing to remove two more, thus opening up a significantly wider area and allowing the tribe to come and go as they pleased without repercussion. Having seen how the Guardians treated others, Talon and Taicho quickly agreed, with everyone else more than happy to help such a friendly people. The party, given two targets, swiftly worked out the map provided concerned the walkways. Talon, trusting his nose, forwent his swamp mask and asked for what he should smell for to make sure they weren't being led astray. Having no notion of the names of their flora, he had no idea what anything they told him meant, but nodded and smiled anyway. It wasn't much effort to climb up a mangrove tree and use the walkways to go to the first of their targets, the Guardian of the Hanging Stones.
When they got there, they noticed that indeed several trees had stone slabs hanging from the branches, wreathed in old vines. What seemed out of place was that the slabs, and indeed some of the vines, swayed to and fro as if in a breeze, but no wind was present. Choompa was volunteered by everyone else to go ahead and scout, so the plucky little goblin climbed down to the ground and steadily made his way over to the first tree, suspicious about the moving vines but unable to place where he may have seen them before. With Choompa invisible to aid in his scouting, the first the group knew of his trouble was when several vines lashed down to wrap around his invisible form, hoisting it up in the air accompanied by choking sounds. Taicho, racing forwards, attacked the tree and found out that the tree itself was just a tree, but Choompa managed to cut his way free, revealing himself to the rest of the party. As everyone made their way up to him and began to wonder where the Guardian was, the Guardian showed up. Large and muscled, with a goat-esque head, it charged in and swiftly wrapped a garotte formed of sinew and teeth around a neck and deftly twisted, snapping the cord in place as it continued to chew itself tighter. The group fought as best they could against this Guardian, but the fleshy necklaces wore them all down quickly.
With Talon unconscious, Choompa once again hoisted into the air by vines and everyone else fairly injured or semiconscious, the Guardian began bleating in triumph and started dragging Talon away. Secreting more sinew and teeth from fleshy holes in his palms, the fey creature began forming a noose with which to strike Talon up and finally end him. Taichi, persevering through the hardships, moved as fast as he could through the uneven roots, soft earth and stinging branches, throwing out his rope dart over and over. With several hits actually wounding the Guardian, who had at least been worn partially down during the fight, he began to seek cover behind the trees. Reginald, who had so far held his own albeit not greatly wounded the foe, took Talon's bone knife and went after the creature, following it to its refuge and slashed out. With a perfect strike, he plunged the knife into the Guardian's eye, felling it even as it bleated in surprise. After a brief interlude to check everyone and ensure they were healed enough to not be at risk, talon took his dagger back and happily stabbed the monster repeatedly until it was 'very dead'. A quick series of slashes allowed him to harvest more of the organic garrote, which he offered to taicho since it seemed to suit him more. Bloodied, but not beaten, the group decided rest was the better option compared to taking on a second Guardian, thus they headed back to the tribe to recover. They were in no rush and, with the apparent strength of the fey, it paid to prepare and go in fresh.
